They came from near and far, descending on Frankfurt in the thousands. And that was just the police.

Navigating to work in Continental Europe’s financial capital was somewhat more arduous Friday as workers returned to their jobs after Thursday’s Ascension Day holiday while protestors prepared for a third day of protests as part of the “Blockupy” demonstration protesting the policies of the European Central Bank, the International Monetary Fund and big banks.

Police on Wednesday removed protesters from an Occupy camp in a small park adjacent to the ECB’s 36-story headquarters in central Frankfurt. Reports said there were around 13 arrests. The bank, which is now protected by fences erected by police, said Wednesday that it has “taken the necessary steps to ensure that the ECB remains operational, with the objective of fulfilling its mission.”

That’s presumably to thwart a blockade of the ECB planned for Friday by protesters, according to news reports. ...............(more)

Although I actually enjoyed my couple of days in Frankfurt. I know most leisure travelers tend to arrive at the airport then head elsewhere in Germany, but I'm glad we spent a couple of days there. I enjoyed it more than I did Cologne.
