Me trying to explain the Republican base in a comment on another decidedly leftist website.
The Republican base is mainly composed of very low information voters, which would be bad enough if they were not also constantly being given misinformation about who they should hate, be afraid of, and on and on, by the right-wing echo chamber.
And while they are blaming everyone else for their problems, the rich laugh their asses off and become richer while the commoners fight over the scraps.

(1,620 posts)3. That is a learned behavior in most cases.
And the same people who are lying to them, and telling them to hate and be afraid of other groups are supporting the politicians who just want to continue the misery. The politicians who are doing whatever they can to dumb everyone down for the GOP by trying to kill education with a billion small cuts, and make people even more desperate and full of hate by cutting social programs in an economy that has economic inequality running rampant.
