Here is the info on the man who killed Cecil, the lion in Kenya.

"Walter Palmer, a dentist from Minnesota, is believed to have paid £35,000 to shoot and kill the much-loved lion with a bow and arrow. The animal was shot on July 1 in Hwange National Park. Two independent sources have confirmed the hunter's identity to the paper, which has also seen a copy of the relevant hunting permit."

used on the borders of Yellowstone NP by wolf "hunters". Wolves are curious and will investigate distress howls, so the "hunters" will hang out with loud speakers just outside the border of the park, lure wolves outside the boundary and shoot them when they cross the line. Hunters my ass, wildlife murderers is what they are. The thrill of killing is all they are into. I would only consider "hunting" valid if the wildlife were allowed to strike back and kill some humans who are trying to kill them... and actually succeed more often than not.

That's how some like "Nugent Bear hunt business" works..

They put out dead animals to attract bears. They even use horses, they buy a cheap auction horse for $10 dollars or snap-up some kids pet pony free off craigs list. Take it to their woods and shoot it, kill the horse in their bear hunting woods. Those dead animals attract bears from miles around.

even when it occurs outside US borders. If a US citizen goes to a foreign country and kills an endangered or threatened species except under very limited circumstances; and especially if it violates the law of the foreign country; they should be prosecutable under US law in addition to being eligible for extradition to the country where the crime occurred.

Something like that. I'm not holding my breath, but we need the ability to punish these fuckers in a court of law followed by prison. Maybe then it would stop. Or at least slow down.

It even made the Kansas City Star this morning. And it was a big article. Raw Story, Drudge. Everyone is running it.

Jimmy Kimmel did a whole thing about what a scumbag this guy is.

This guy is toast. And he should be. What he did was abominable. I just wish he was stuck in Africa and they could just keep him there and he could face a trial there. His argument that he had no idea what he did was wrong, it was all the guide's fault is just pathetic. They lured that poor animal out of the park on purpose so they could kill it. Tell me he didn't know what they were doing.

Trial by the internet and he has been found guilty and shunned from society as a total scumbag.

Sometimes that trial by internet thing bothers me but not in this case. Goes right along with that Veterinarian that shot the neighbor's cat with a bow and then posted a picture of herself and the dead cat hanging from the arrow. She's done. No Vet. clinic will ever hire her again and she may lose her license. I hope she does. The State of Texas isn't bringing criminal charges against her but she is still done. Even the school she graduated from put out a statement about her.

Here's the information from the U.S. Attorney's Office:

Madison, Wisconsin -- Erik C. Peterson, United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that Walter J. Palmer, 48, of Eden Prairie, Minn., pleaded guilty today in U.S. District Court in Madison to making a false statement to a federal agent in connection with the hunting of a black bear in Wisconsin.

The government proffered the following evidence at the plea hearing:
The hunting of black bears in the State of Wisconsin is regulated by state law and allowed only in specific geographical areas. When a licensed hunter kills a bear, Wisconsin law requires the hunter to immediately tag the bear and transport it to a registration station located within the zone or subzone in which the bear was killed.

On September 1, 2006, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) issued a license to Walter J. Palmer, authorizing him to hunt and kill a black bear only in Subzone A1 in northern Wisconsin. On September 30, 2006, Palmer, with the assistance of others, hunted and killed a black bear near Phillips in Price County, Wisconsin, at a location approximately 40 miles by vehicle outside of Subzone A1.
After the bear was killed, members of the hunting group noticed that Palmer's tag was for Subzone A1 and that the bear had been killed outside of that zone.

The members of the group, including Palmer, agreed that if any authorities were to ask where the bear had been killed, they would say

The Telegraph said it has “two independent sources” identifying Palmer as the man who killed Cecil after the lion was lured out of Hwange National Park. The newspaper added that it has seen a copy of the hunting permit.

~

During a nighttime pursuit, the hunters tied a dead animal to their car to lure the lion out of a national park, said Johnny Rodrigues, chairman of the Zimbabwe Conservation Task Force. The American is believed to have shot it with a crossbow, injuring the animal. The wounded lion was found 40 hours later and shot dead with a gun, Rodrigues said in the statement.

~

In 2008, Palmer pleaded guilty in federal court in Wisconsin to misleading a federal agent in connection with the hunting of a black bear. Two years earlier, Palmer killed a bear near Phillips, in Price County. That location was 40 miles outside where bear hunting was allowed at the time.

Palmer and others transported the bear carcass to a registration station inside the allowed hunting zone. At the station, he falsely certified that the bear had been killed in the legal zone. He then brought the bear to Minnesota.

Its big business there. It's regulated by the state but that surely doesn't make it right.

and yes the wealthy pay $50,000 and a lot more to shoot trophy wildlife in Africa.

Wealthy have resorts, huge breeding farms in Africa for 'canned hunts' complete with head/skins sent back home is legal.

Legal to bring back to USA even with endangered captive bred like rhino horns.

Then in America the trophy horns can be sold at auctions for a lot more then the canned hunt in Africa.

Even the wealthy braggers have said, they 'pay' a village to kill nuisance elephants.

Poachers like this lion killer, pay to kill too. This man just got caught but what will Africa do? ask for him to pay a fine?

The female lions do the hunting. This animal was Snagglepuss. The impalas of the Serengeti cared as much about this lion as they cared about the latest box score of the New York Mets.

And he'll understand how all the tormented animals he hunted felt. I hope that his practice is ruined and he loses all his posessions... however I don't wish physical harm upon him.

for the sole purpose of putting its head on the wall. Every time I encounter a piece of taxidermy (I'm an antique dealer) I almost become physically ill. The thought of that majestic lion having his life ended by an American asshole is almost too much to bear. I hope they throw the book at the fool and I hope every patient leaves his practice.

I refuse to refer to him as "doctor."

Mr. Palmer is on the run now. His dental practice is in ruins, his family and his shameful ass are in hiding. Life, as he has known it, is over. Fucking deal with it, Walter.

The news from Huffington Post includes a quote where he claims that his kill was "legal." Well, that really doesn't hold up to scrutiny, does it?

So here are your options:

1. Move to some remote corner of the earth and try to establish a dental practice that will support your family. Good luck there.

2. Surrender to the authorities and accept your fate. If you're lucky, you'll get to serve out a prison sentence in a third-world country. Hope your immunizations (TB, Hepatitis (all strains), HPV) are up to date.

3. Do the honorable thing and just throw yourself off a cliff, or into a large body of water where the crustaceans can feed off of your flesh just as you profited off of other creatures. Please do not throw yourself in front of a train or otherwise inconvenience the rest of humanity. You've done quite enough of that.

4. Join the list of Republican candidates for the 2016 presidential race. What the hell? You actually make James Ellis BUSH and Trumpy-Dump look almost clean. Almost.

Burn in hell!

I love the picture of stuffed lions that people are putting outside of this asshole's soon-to-be-former dental office. Also the couple "hunting" dentists with squirt guns, throwing stuffed lions at this scumbag's house as bait.

think about how long ago that was. that is how long this lion suffered with an arrow in him. this is not hunting. this pay for slaughter has to stop. at the very least, this guy needs to go bankrupt and be given heavy fines. hope he ends up on the streets.

and just my opinion, but anyone who can afford 50k for the pleasure of slaughtering an innocent creature has too much money

Palmer, 55, who pleaded guilty to a license violation after shooting a black bear in Wisconsin in 2008,

Guilty plea in Wisconsin

The incident is not Palmer’s first brush with authorities.

In 2008, he pleaded guilty in federal court in Wisconsin to misleading a federal agent in connection with the hunting of a black bear. Two years earlier, Palmer killed a bear near Phillips, in Price County. That location was 40 miles outside of the zone where he held a permit to hunt bear. Palmer and others transported the bear carcass to a registration station inside the allowed hunting zone, according to court documents, and at the station, he falsely certified that the bear had been killed in the legal zone.

Facing a maximum penalty of five years in prison, Palmer was sentenced to one year’s probation and fined nearly $3,000.

In the spring of 2003, Palmer also was convicted in Otter Tail County in western Minnesota and paid a small fine for fishing without a license, a misdemeanor.

And in 2009, Palmer agreed to a settlement with the Minnesota Board of Dentistry over allegations that he sexually harassed a receptionist. She alleged that Palmer made comments about her breasts, buttocks and genitalia.

Without admitting guilt, Palmer settled and paid $127,500 to the woman, who also was his patient. The settlement included references to his bear-hunting conviction and “substandard record keeping.”

“I had no idea that the lion I took was a known, local favorite, was collared and part of a study until the end of the hunt. I relied on the expertise of my local professional guides to ensure a legal hunt.”

(What was he blind not to have noticed the collar?)

Walter J. Palmer of Eden Prairie, a practicing dentist in Bloomington and a prominent bow-and-arrow hunter, issued a statement addressing the killing on July 1 of Cecil, a lion that was a favorite among tourists and wildlife researchers

Considering they said that he lion suffered for 40 hours before Palmer managed to kill him, Palmer flat out tortured that poor animal. How can he claim to be a knowledgable big game hunter and be clueless that killing this beautiful animal would also result in the death of his cubs by the new dominent lion.

I hope that people boycott his practice and drive him into bankruptcy. He is a vile dispicable person.

Everyone who works there needs to start looking for another job. Palmer needs to turn himself in and go face the music in Zimbabwe. I feel bad for his kids. His wife must have known what a shitstain he is (this was his 43rd!! kill) so I'm having trouble feeling sorry for her.

animals so that they are an easy kill. He had two other people lure the lion out of a safe haven probably with food and then shot the lion. He was not hunting - he was using a lion for target practice.

He is now trying to tell us that he did not know the animal was from a game preserve or that it was collared. If he was close enough to use a bow and arrow he was close enough to see the collar. As to not knowing about the game preserve? I am assuming he was not just wondering around in the wilds of Africa without a map? They can add liar to the sign on his door.

The sign on his door says he is a coward and a killer. A very poor excuse for a man. The sign is correct.
