Three people came in today and jokingly asked whether I kill lions in my spare time. Har de har har.
This murderer...what manner of person goes and shoots a lion?? A miscreant.
In addition, Chaka Fattah is my Congressman. Great day all the way around.

(38,687 posts)My 6 mos. cleaning on Monday revealed a cavity. Had it filled this morning. While passing small talk waiting for the shot to kick in and the gum to go numb I almost (twice) brought up Cecil the Lion to my dentist. Thought better of it though (sore point and whatnot).

(34,131 posts)In his spare time he does pro bono work on homeless and low income people. I've heard him talking about it with his assistants and asked him about it myself.
And the way his office is filled with photographs of birds and animals, I suspect any shooting he might do is with a camera.
Sorry your clients don't know you well enough to be sure you're not like that animal killing jerk.

(47,437 posts)that many people cannot afford dental care, and that he could have gone to Africa to treat kids with dental problems, instead of putting $50K to kill a lion.

(34,131 posts)And wouldn't have paid over $120,000 for a sexual harassment case, or been fined for lying about where he shot a bear.
And we never would have heard of Dr. Walter Palmer.
What's bad is that he is probably a very distant relative. I go back on a couple of lines to the first Walter Palmer who lived in America: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walter_Palmer_%28Puritan%29 http://www.walterpalmer.com/Walter_Palmer_Bio.htm
But he was a jerk, too. He was charged with beating an indentured servant (not even his own servant) to death and managed to be acquitted of the charges even though he acknowledged that he had done it.

(11,637 posts)making a joke is one way to ease tension - many people do not like going to the dentist (maybe they are embarrassed that they haven't flossed for weeks and are afraid of what you will discover)

Maybe more. Maybe dumb. Not many signatures yet.
I don't know if the ADA can do that or not.

(25,491 posts)that is up to each state dental board. You almost literally have to be a murderer to get your license revoked in most states.

For example, I've been at DU for over a decade and know that you're a dentist. Without knowing you personally, you strike me as well off but not like this Palmer character. Is he as wealthy as he is due to the type of dentistry he does? He seems to concentrate on cosmetic dentistry as opposed to family practice.
Thank you.

(25,491 posts)Spending 50 grand just to lure them. I sure as hell don't have 10 percent of that for anything. Much less that. Bastard.
