about a living President to an author is even scummier than crashing drunk into the white house gate?

I remember when James Fallows wrote an article called "The Passionless President" about President Carter just after he left his job as a speechwriter for Carter. He still makes me sick for doing that.
There is a serious problem with the Secret Service. It is my understanding some are RW and hate the President.

I just feel that Secret Service agents should not be allowed to reveal anything personal about a current or past President or about family members generally.
It is incredibly unfair....

(12,799 posts)It seems to be a reflection of the times we live in. For over a century domestic staff remained circumspect about their employers' doings. In our time Kate Brower's book broke with that tradition. I think the same may be the case for the secret service. People don't seem to value discretion as they once did. Maybe these sorts of books serve to replace the back fence gossip we used to engage in. I don't know.
