Hoping she can beat the odds...
"Valerie Harper suffered a health emergency Wednesday night, when she was taken away by ambulance during a performance of her musical Nice Work If You Can Get It at the Ogunquit Playhouse in Maine.
The fire department confirms to ET that they received a call at 8:56 p.m. about an unconscious 75-year-old female backstage, and that she was taken to York Hospital. According to Ron Corning, anchor and correspondent at ET's affiliate in Dallas WFAA, around 9:40 p.m., the artistic director of the musical announced to the audience that the ambulance seen on the side of the lawn was for the 75-year-old actress, and that she had fallen ill and wouldn't be performing.
The director then said, "She wants all of you to know after some fluids and rest she hopes to be right back here on stage later this week."
However, a source close to the situation tells ET, "Just know it's very bad."

(135,425 posts)Valerie was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer in 2013, after previously beating lung cancer in 2009. In April, she told ET that her cancer has not spread to other parts of her body, though pointed out that contrary to reports, she has not been "cured."
"In a way, it's a positive thing to know that a year's gone by and it's nowhere else in my body," she said. So I am cancer free from the neck down, so far."

(4,259 posts)She saw the Saturday night event. When she came home, she said that Harper was having an awful night with her lines and her movements.
Didn't know at the time that she was so sick.

(63,221 posts)A family friend of ours basically died on the golf course and was taken there where he was revived and pulled through. Nobody thought he would make it but he's still alive. The place is like a hotel with some great doctors so I trust she is getting the best care possible. I really hope she will be back on stage soon.

(12,629 posts)Valerie Harper has denied reports that she fell into a coma after being hospitalized on Wednesday.
"My dear friends and fans!" Harper, 75, wrote in a Facebook post on Friday evening. "As always, thank you for your amazing support. I am happy to report I am not, nor have I been, in a coma."
According to a report, Harper had collapsed backstage after performing Nice Work If You Can Get It in Ogunquit, Maine. The Ogunquit Playhouse's artistic director Branford T. Kenney confirmed that she had been taken to a local hospital "as a precaution."

Proving that she's lost absolutely none of her sense of humor, Harper added: "I must confess that the highlight of this ordeal came when I was escorted by two handsome young men and a pilot, in a medivac helicopter, as the full moon lit the sky. Talk about movie magic!!!"
