Initially, Massachusetts Senator Ted Kennedy, after a failed bid to win the 1980 Democratic nomination for president, was considered the de facto front-runner of the 1984 primary.

He had not declared until quite a while.

But are we in "the presidential primary" in freaking August? Really? Nobody's voting on anything for months.

Clearly, Ted Kennedy endorsed everything Jerry Falwell believed in.
