Would you rather go to space in a government or private built space vehicle?

We have been conditioned to associate the private section with better quallity. Does that translate to large projects such as space craft, bridges, roads, etc? I was thinking about this issue because I get a twinge whenever I think about these private build rockets.

Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Morton-Thiokol, other contractors were the ones doing the actual building of Apollo, the Shuttle, most of our rockets.

NASA has a terrible safety record having killed 17 astronauts. I don't know if a private company would have done any better.

in a rocket with designs dating back to WWII. That is the only practical way we know how to get into space.
It would not be any safer in a private rocket.

But I don't want to go into space, I really just want a better rail system.

I wonder what the toilet seats would cost on a government built commercial aircraft. Would the aircraft have electronic counter measures installed. Would it be capable of dropping bombs in wartime? How quiet would the passenger cabin be?

Often the government develops technologies that are later adapted for civilian use. I believe that if there is a viable market for cargo or passenger space craft or to build industry on the moon to mine its resources, the private sector will be interested in providing the service and profiting from it.

Of course, there will be government regulation.

Flying in an airplane is plenty awful enough.

My favorite mode of transportation is walking.

A private company would be more likely to save a few bucks by doing a Wile E. Coyote with an ACME type product.
