high heels may be the modern day version of footbinding. they're hard to run in when you're young and when you're old your feet are so wrecked from wearing them that you can hardly walk.
otherwise.. lovely gracious first lady, always a pleasure to see her. I hope she gets good foot care.

(23,864 posts)I was thinking "You know, I don't know who these ladies are married to but I like the ones wearing flats more."
Michelle excluded, of course. I understand as the hostess, heels are probably mandatory in some eldritch sense.

(12,022 posts)I don't know how some women do it.
I have a male friend who's written a book from a female point of view, and he told me how much research he had to do to get the girly details right. I told him that if he hasn't pulled on pantyhose and walked around in high heels, he has no idea what we go through.

Does anyone know who the very attractive woman in photo 3, wearing all beige, is? Such a classic, but understated beauty!

(24,096 posts)I feel a bit guilty or something commenting on how good Michelle looks and her awesome taste in clothes - you know that girlzy stuff. But I can't help it - I like to look at nice things and Michelle is a nice thing.
If she were the Finance Minister or somthing I would probably hold back on commenting about her looks and fashion and stuff. But she's the First Lady, First Mom, First Wife, First Everything that represents well the posssible best in all us schmucks,
so there. (to my conscience)

(268,997 posts)I don't mean expensive clothes, but I still love girly things. You don't grow up with lots of sisters and not like some girly things. I also like nice make up (basic minerals) and my nails are always polished.

(5,756 posts)A smart person who worked hard to earn a law degree. A mother to two kids. Now she's taken on the real and serious issue of our nation's obesity and nutrition as one of her causes as First Lady. I think it's pretty neat the White House chef can get fresh vegetables from their own garden. I wish I had a yard in which I could plant veggies.
And doesn't she just really look awesome? That dress is so Jackie Kennedy 50's/60's
So proud to have her represent us. Heck, and I'm an old white guy from the South.

(51,076 posts)I really like our President representing us to the world also. My hope is Cory Booker will follow him to the white house in '16 with a woman VP then her follow up with her Presidency. Its time for change and I'm loving the one we're already embarked on with our electing a black man to the POTUS.
I just don't get the hate that so many on the right have for our President and its all about the color of his skin. The scary part is many don't even make any bones about it either.

(21,925 posts)Someone upthread referred to her as his "partner". If that's the case, I think the Fundies here would freak if a U.S. President lived in sin with his partner in the White House.

I don't know how they stand those painful high heels.
