I go to the next BLM rally. I storm the stage and wrestle the microphone away from the eldery African American speaker and start yelling right in his face. I then start ranting about gay rights and calling everyone in the room a homophobe.
Why are people upset at me?
Is it
A. They secretly are homophobes and aren't willing to listen to my very important message. They are clearly all just fragile heterosexuals who can't deal with the truth.
or is it
B. I am acting like a gigantic jerk.

(1,772 posts)is this elder African American speaker running for President of the United States? Has he been cool to a life-or-death issue for gays?

(5,739 posts)It was a social security/Medicaid rally. Bernie was just speaking there. The event was hijacked by other people for another cause.
Name one issue on which Bernie Sanders isn't in lock step on social justice.

(10,650 posts)You do remember Hillary's first response to BLM don't you? Remember her saying "All lives matter"? Or have you forgotten that?
And Sanders has never been "cool" to life or death issues for people of color.
If you want to get people to listen to you, try the truth.

(3,431 posts)Did you give the AA speaker time to answer your
polemic rant?
What was your purpose for disrupting this rally?
Did you come out of it not just with publicity, you craved,
or did you damage your own cause?

(751 posts)Issue, why go after someone with little power to influence things and at best will be able to do it in 2017?
Why not go after the people with power NOW? You know there is a president by the name of Obama and everyone knows where he lives. They are allowed to protest in front of his house and they might be able to shame him into action. I actually don't agree with this approach, but that has much better chance of succeeding than going after a fringe politician.
