(12,655 posts)i have seen very few pro war posters at du. most of the people i read were rabidly anti iwr. i just think that right now people are very focused on their candidate in the primaries. as the nominee becomes clear, i think you will see a lot more concern over possible war with iran, both because pretty much all the repubs are for it, and at least one maybe two dem candidates seem to be ok with it.
if things start ramping up with iran, there could be a lot of activity in such a group. personally, i do think a board like du should have a section for people who are against war in general.

(46,179 posts)Not officially, but I was here when DU was protesting the IWR, and the entry into the never-ending war on "terror."
A forum is a good idea. There's a process, which I don't remember, but is probably around somewhere.

(46,179 posts)there are instructions for getting a group going.
It basically involves starting a post asking for a group, and getting enough people to say they'd want one. I just don't remember which forum to start it in, or how to bring it to admin's attention.

(8,790 posts)I've been here for years, I find anti-war pretty much everywhere. Was a time in 2003 where pretty much every thread was anti-war. So we never really needed to make a separate spot to be anti-war.
Yes I have a low post count given my account's age, I lurk mostly.
Just put your anti-war stuff out there and go with it.

(8,790 posts)We seem to have a forum for everything else. But back in the early 00's this place was 100% anti-war. Still is. Its just something we do here.

(8,790 posts)DU's a lot bigger place now than it was back in those days. The tent is huge, so yeah I'm sure there's plenty of war hawks around here.
I agree with you, our DoD spending is stupid high. For what we spent in 1/2 a day on Iraq and Afghanistan, we could have funded NASA for a year.
I'm with you.
I'm not a mod, but try them about starting a new forum here, or failing that, go right to Skinner and see what he thinks.

(100,133 posts)....as a very new poster at DU. There are other sites singlemindedly devoted to this issue where you can immediately plunge in if that is what you desire.
As has already been pointed out, anti war sentiment is widely dispersed in many groups and subgroups, with plenty of activism and involvement. There is not a soul here that I know of who is "pro-war" in the sense you no doubt mean, although we have many military veterans and many people who believe in the right to defend one's country without stupidly invading others on bogus causes.
What made you latch on to DU in particular?
