Why Jimmy Carter deserves a monument?

He has shown the best side of America. After Watergate, when the people needed a leader that was not crooked or dishonest, they chose Jimmy Carter.

He showed us that we can be a country at peace. We did not have to be at war all the time. He showed a stature that has not been shown by any President since. His honesty and public service should be rewarded. In my own personal opinion, he was twice the man of Ronald Reagan.

For the goodness he has exhibited with the Carter Center and his work around the world, in the name of peace, he deserves to have a monument in his honor.

Perhaps the state of Georgia will make his home in Plains, Georgia a state park as a testament to this great man...

Because he was the last president who truly did his duty for the good of the country and its citizens. It is ashame he only had one term.

There are several people who should still be in jail today for their actions concerning the release of the hostages Iran was holding then, dick Cheney is one of those people...in fact it should have been the end of the Republican Party as a political force in American politics.

Edit: To add President Obama has also been a President who I feel has done his duty mostly for the good of the country and its citizens but...IMO he let American down by not holding people accountable for a war based on lies (Iraq) / Torture and for not holding Wall Street accountable for the economic catastrophe they caused. By not doing so he sent a message to future administrations and executives that they can do the same if not worse and get away with it...which almost garuntees it will happen again.

Thu Aug 20, 2015, 07:29 PM
Aug 2015

He said the release of the hostages had already been negotiated on his watch and they were literally sitting on a plane just waiting for the take-off. Reagan had quietly intervened into those negotiations behind the Carter administration's back. Iran had agreed not to let that plane take off until Reagan had taken the oath of office so he (Reagan) would get the credit for bringing them home. There was no limit to the depth of Reagan's willingness to deceive.

On the other hand, there are also no limits to the depths of the Carters' humanity towards not just the citizens of this Country, but to people around the world as well. Often called a national treasure, Jimmy Carter is indeed just about the greatest President I personally have observed.

My very best wishes to him and Roslyn during this time of illness.

His "Crisis of Confidence" speech laid out an achievable pathway to energy independence had we chosen to follow his leadership. In that speech, he spoke the hard truth that the American people would have done well to heed. Instead, we behaved like insulted children and turned our preference towards the Reagan mouthpiece that proceeded to blow sunshine up our collective asses for the next 8 years, telling us all how great we were as we began our slide towards the ignominy we "enjoy" today.
Carter was surely one of the greatest presidents of the latter part of the 20th century, but most won't realize that for another hundred years or so...
