(11,045 posts)Is he colored? the man asks only to be told, No, hes white, I think, before replying, That dont even matter, that dont even matter.
A third man then adds, Cause it dont matter, he was a human.
All this for missing drug counselling and having having a warrant out for possession of drug paraphernalia.

Protect and serve, Yeah right! More like terrorize and enslave.

(16,350 posts)because one person died (and YES that was horrible and the circumstances should be addressed), they are completely numb to the endless list of people getting killed every day by the people who are sworn 'to protect and to serve.'
It's a race issue absolutely, but I think it's a class thing too. If police know you live in a certain part of town and they believe no one 'important' cares about you, then you are a disposable non-entity, if not a menace to be removed. You are not humanyou are vermin.
I know black people get stopped and harassed all the time but if you are poor and black you are literally nothing in the eyes of the police. And now we see it can happen to white folks too. I will be very interested to follow this case and see who this victim is and what happens to the police who murdered him.
It's gotta stop! Not one more!!!

(4,186 posts)There would be zero justification to fire a weapon for any other purpose.
Sucks that it has become the go-to response. Civility is contagious, if only they'd give it a chance.

(5,217 posts)certainly less likely to testify on their own behalf and contradict whatever story a cop pulls out of his ass.
Similar to the way they always say they feared for their life, it's go-to cover-your-ass trick.

Most will know of which song I'm thinking. The first 8 lines of it keep applying, over and over.

(43,102 posts)It is graphically designed so that it puts a face on each shooting. Furthermore, right at the top is a chart showing how each state ranks. My state, for example, is 31 out of 51 (per capita). One can apply filters. I applied the filter to see the number of women shot by police, and it was 30 out of the total of 724.
When you look at the pictures of these women, you wonder what on earth could cause a cop to kill them? Click the picture, and it brings up news stories. According to this, there sure are a lot of women out there shooting guns at police.
Sandra Bland is not on there, and I suppose that is because she "hanged herself" in her cell rather than get shot.
Thanks, mountain grammy. I bookmarked it.

(29,006 posts)Few "deaths in custody" are tracked on this site. There are actually thousands of "deaths in custody." Need a whole new website for that one. As if police killing citizens out in the open isn't bad enough, "deaths in custody" are even more chilling. People go in and don't come out; vigilante justice in a police state.

(43,271 posts)The cops just say the magic phrase "I felt my life was in danger" and they
get a paid admin vacation and then it's like nothing ever happened.
And then the case goes to a grand jury where the DA functions as defense counsel and discredits any scrap of evidence so the grand jury does not indict and there is never a day in court.

(62,325 posts)killings and the fact that they get away with it. I hear a lot of rhetoric, but see NO effort to DO something about it. And if the Federal Govt refuses to protect its citizens, then maybe it's time to appeal to the International Community.
Shameful, no other nation would tolerate this, men, women AND children, hundreds murdered by cop since Jan. of THIS YEAR ALONE.
