The Rude Pundit - What Country Are GOP Candidates Talking About?

Listening to the Republicans running for president, you'd think that we live in a blight-ridden hellscape filled with Mexican rapists taking our jobs by shooting us all to death while breeding anchor babies, crazy Muslims trying to behead Christians on street corners while atheist liberals applaud their devotion to their culture, and tyrannical Hillary Clinton flouting email rules while personally murdering Americans in Benghazi with Planned Parenthood fetus parts, not to mention the Iranian nukes ready to rain down on us at any second (or ten years from now, whichever comes first), China dragging us into the sea of financial ruin while loaning us more money, families falling to pieces because Mom says she's always been a man and the kids are on Obamacare, and the military ready to take away everyone's guns before forcing us all to give up our coal and gas-burning ways to please the so-called "scientists" who think they're so smart. And it's all because that asshole Barack Obama is too weak, like that fucking pussy Jimmy Carter, because he refuses to bomb the shit out of any countries that fuck with us.

There's Jeb Bush, who is haunted by Islamic extremism (and Donald Trump), telling us, "The reality is that radical Islam has been spreading like a pandemic – across the Middle East, throughout Africa and to parts of Asia, even in the nations of the West, finding recruits in Europe and the United States...Who can seriously argue that America and our friends are safer today than in 2009, when the President and Secretary Clinton – the storied ‘team of rivals’ – took office? So eager to be the history-makers, they failed to be the peacemakers." (He didn't mention his brother at all in this speech, by the way. And George Bush is pretty much the reason we have ISIS in the first place.)

There's Ted Cruz screeching in that cartoon parrot voice of his at a "Rally for Religious Liberty" in Des Moines, "There is a war on faith in America today, in our lifetime. Did we ever imagine that in the land of the free and home of the brave, we would be witnessing our government persecute its citizens for their faith?...You have endured the pain, endured the attacks, endured the hatred, that precisely put you where you are here today...You want to know what this election is about? We’re one justice away from the Supreme Court saying every image of God shall be torn down.”

There's Ben Carson, talking about the use of missiles to blow up shit along the border with Mexico: &quot I)t's possible that a drone could be used to destroy the caves that are utilized to hide people. Those need to be gotten rid of...Those caves are very evident. And I hope you have some of the sheriffs in. They can show you the pictures. They can show you what is going on there. We are not getting support from the federal government to deal with these people. They're being outgunned. You know, 56 percent of that border is not under our control."

Fuckin' caves? We gotta worry about caves filled with Mexicans now? (He probably meant "tunnel," but then you're getting caught up in "words" having "meaning," as Carson might complain.)

This could go on. Hell, any speech by any candidate, Trump or Christie, Huckabee or Jimmy Ballsucker or whoever the fuck else is running. They all paint a picture of a nation that is teetering, just barely hanging on, before falling into an abyss.

Shit's gonna kill us. Shit's gonna get to us somehow and kill us. That much is sure. But chances are that you will die a thousand times from weather caused by climate change or unsafe food or environmental poisons or guns you own yourself than you will be affected in any way by ISIS or Mexican rapists. But the GOP won't talk about that. They won't talk about the real denial of rights, like the treatment of African Americans by law enforcement or the militarization of the police or sentencing laws or detention of immigrants, including the dreaded Mexicans (most of whom are not, in fact, interested in raping Donald Trump), people who suffer far more than a baker who won't bake a gay cake.

The Republicans will talk endlessly about this fake America. Because if they talk about the real one, they'll have to confront the real problems, not the made-up shit that pinches the anger and rage nerve in their Neanderthal voters.

Wake the fuck up , Americans, you live in one of the safest nations on earth, and would be the safest if you got rid of the self-induced self-created media paranoia.

And the GUNS.

American paranoia and fear are self-inflicted wounds, which the selfish, lying GOP and media exploit....it is really is a form of national abuse of civilians and it has to end....come on, mass media, can't you make money and feel powerfully in control of America by NOT using faux fear?

Grow up, for fucks's sake!

That is definitely not true.

The Institute for Economics and Peace has recently revealed their annual Global Peace Index findings, a report that ranks 162 of the world's countries on their safety and peacefulnesses.

The United States was ranked in 94th place on the survey.

The score for external conflicts fought improved, as President Barack Obama, sought to reduce US military involvement abroad, trying to wind down the US presence in Afghanistan and Iraq.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and assume that Fred was not talking about the safety of our troops in combat, but rather the safety of Americans in the United States.

Furthermore, given the context of this thread he is presumably talking about internal threats from external sources (directly or indirectly). Fred himself alluded to the fact that the greatest threat we individually face in our daily lives is from "us" not "them".

We certainly have a moderately high murder rate. But according to the 2011 FBI Uniform Crime Report over half of all such murders are the result of arguments. Not gangs. Not robbers. You are many times more likely to be killed by a family member or a friend than by a stranger. So "them" doesn't just include non-Americans. The "them" that poses us little threat also includes fellow Americans whom we do not know.

By that measure, the US is also nowhere near being one of the safest countries in the world.

I believe I have provided evidence to indicate that this is not true.

If you have evidence that shows that the US is one of the world's safest countries, I would be interested in seeing it.

THAT is the country they're talking about. GOP lives, breathes, and breeds fear. It's all they've got.

If they weren't so insanely destructive, I'd pity them. As is, I just want them STOPPED before they turn the real world into the one in their deluded, fearful, and mostly empty heads.

They should all be in straightjackets. NOT in the Oval Office or anywhere NEAR any government office or agency.

Blame it on the president who inherited the mess;

Engage in hyperventilated fearmongering to manipulate voters into choosing more of the same.

this way.

talkradiostan is the result of letting 1000 coordinated scripted radio stations and their 400 blowhards have a free speech free ride for the last two decades.

we even allow it to parasitize 90 major universities, which crap all over their mission statements when they rent their sports mascots to 270 limbaugh stations. those stations get community credibility and attract advertisers while using that association to sell the alternate reality- including global warming denial, public ed privatization and defunding of those same universities, teacher hate, racism, higher tuition, etc.

talkradiostan is right there blasting our communities with north korean style megaphones and progressive orgs and the dem party have been wasting our donations of money and time and playing catchup because they ignore it.

if even a few of those 90 schools were pushed to divorce themselves from rw radio others would be shamed into following and the rw radio monopoly that creates talkradiostan and keeps it going would die. so would fox 'news' which would be laughed out of the country without the groundwork repetition those 1000 coordinated radio stations do.

The Fox alternate reality that they seem to promote every day is quite the scary place to live. So glad that I don't live in it. Things aren't perfect but Fox hosts and their Republican minions are quite simply delusional about the way things really are in this country/world.
