Over a third of GOP Texas Board of Education candidates don't think education is the governments job

GOP candidates wary on role of public schools

The Texas Constitution clearly establishes the importance of public education in the quest to preserve the liberties and rights of the people by declaring: “It shall be the duty of the Legislature of the State to establish and make suitable provision for the support and maintenance of an efficient system of public free schools.”

But more than a third of the Republican candidates for the State Board of Education don’t agree, according to their responses on candidate surveys. They disagree with the survey question: “It is the government’s responsibility to be sure children are properly educated.”

If they don't get the irony in that, they can't be helped.

The choice of textbooks by this school board generally narrows the choice of textbooks for the rest of the school districts in the nation.

It's like Jehovah's witnesses running a blood bank, or staunch vegans running a steak house.

If they don't believe that government has a role in educating children then why are they running for this position? The only reason I can think of is to destroy the educational system from within.
