Trump may be 'impossible to take down,' top Republican pollster says

"SNIP..............

"The Republican leadership needs to wake up and see that the grass roots has abandoned them," said Luntz, the head of Luntz Global, a top GOP polling and messaging consultancy.

"This is a different cat," Luntz added. "It's not like Ross Perot in 1992, where people were simply unhappy with the two major parties; they're choosing Trump affirmatively. Honestly, my legs are shaking looking at these numbers. All those people who think he's going to implode are wrong. He's not going away."

Assembled in a room behind mirrored glass in an Alexandria, Va. office building, 29 current and former Trump supporters held forth on what they like and dislike about the controversial real estate tycoon, who owns three New Jersey golf courses and once owned three Atlantic City casinos.

Most notably, the intensity of the group's support for Trump was matched only by their dislike of establishment GOP candidates and politics as usual. At one point, a woman named Rhiannon explained her support of Trump by lamenting that "it appears that there's only one party." A whopping 25 of 29 participants in the focus group immediately and heartily agreed with her.

people based on the race, ethnicity or nationality. Our version focuses on class and 'trickle down' economics. Big difference - 'dumbass' vs 'smartass'.

Are getting no enthusiasm. I never thought I'd see the day when most of America simply decided their political system isn't working for them.

Exciting times

The reason we've been stuck in RW mode for so long is that people on both sides supported the parties, no matter what.

Somehow we've moved beyond that to basic rejection, which hopefully means we're getting somewhere.

For the exact opposite reason, many on the left agree with that (But I sure as hell know there is a difference betwween right-center and bat-shit-insane right). That your average teabagger believes that the current GOP is too liberal is pretty scary.

The GOP leadership could take some comfort by looking at Luntz's predictions for 2012.

I think we should not underestimate him. He is talking about preserving social programs (article below). Many people who need them and fantasize about wealth don't feel the same anger as they did toward Romney because Trump isn't as polished. No republican will make that 47% mistake again.

People are over Mitt Romney's wealth and disdain for the poor and middle class. Trump doesn't have the same polish, and in addition to those who vote against their interests, he may appeal to other republican wannabes who have reluctantly voted for Democrats because it is in their interest. Many people love to identify with wealth and the accessible language and saying whatever comes to mind may hit home with people who don't have the most expansive vocabulary and\or have a sense of entitlement when it comes to offending people.

The racist factor is huge and there may be union members who, while not so much racist, can be convinced to vote to keep the people from South American countries from "stealing their jobs." - I know a woman who had been a hard core Democrat who was far enough left to wish Green party candidates could win has fallen into that ideology in honor of her father who had been a strong union member.
