Donald Trump promised Monday that he would return the name of North Americas largest mountain to Mount McKinley, undoing President Obamas decision to call it Denali.
Calling Obamas act a great insult to Ohio, Trump, who is running for president next year, tweeted late Monday that Obama reversed the name the peak had for more than 100 years, in honor of President William McKinley, an Ohio native.

Trump talks more than the other 16 combined.

(6,409 posts)...depends on the number of voters. Since Ohio is the third most populous state, the insult to Ohio is huge. Since Alaska has far fewer voters, the insult of naming Denali for a guy from Ohio is small. By the way, the right wing is up in arms abut this, as they are about everything Obama does.

(46,436 posts)I just returned from a five-day Aurora-shooting trip to Wiseman up near Gates of the Arctic and ANWR. As we flew by Denali on the way back to Anchorage, she seemed particularly pleased to have her name restored.

(46,436 posts)Are you still up in the Denali area? Here are a couple of websites you can check for Aurora forecast. I see tonight is a KP 5, which is exceptional.

This one will give you the probability of seeing Aurora from your exact GPS location at the time you are checking.

2. Your user name drives me crazy. I work in I.T., and when we get undesired results from a software package, or it does not work, we say your user name. Boss: "Did that patch from the vendor fix the problem." Me: "No" Boss: "What's the problem?" Me: "Dunno, just DFW"

I sure hope I never hear an aircraft mechanic or pilot use the term. Pilot: "There's something wrong with the plane!" Co-Pilot: "What's wrong?" Pilot: "Don't know. The plane just DFW!"

(8,976 posts)20 miles from my home....the name is said to mean "Smile of the Great Spirit". I find the name beautiful and evocative. I can't think why so well named a place would be improved by naming it for a mere politician. And Denali is the same.

(7,830 posts)& now they're sending the poison up by barge from LA, TX, & OK on our precious Ohio River, already besieged by algae from massive BigAg farming...
Being the local dump for cancer-causing, radioactive waste is the real insult. Ohioans health & lives clearly don't matter much. Otherwise, these states would keep their own damn waste.
Ohio is destined to be one big superfund site one day, which is kind of insulting.
The mountain seems small in comparison.

(7,160 posts)All the lakes, rivers, and ponds overrun with algae. The poison in SE Ohio from fracking will soon overrun the state.

(35,701 posts)McKinley never even saw the mountain and it had been called Denali for generations. It was renamed in 1896 by a gold prospector.
Why does Trump want to insult Alaskans by renaming it again after someone who had nothing to do with Alaska or the mountain?
