Kim Davis perp walk. In leg chains and handcuffed. And still clearly in need of a designer.

Looks like the handcuffs are shackled to a chain around her waist, too.

It's delicious!

She'll lose her personal idea of martyrdom to her own church telling her to stay in jail to make the church make some stupid point. I bet her pastor and the leaders of the church have already visited her to make sure she stays in jail so they can benefit.

Mike Hukabee is already saying he's going to visit her next week and that he's holding a rally for 'her cause'

That's why they want her to stay in jail. They want the low-informed masses to open their wallets and contribute to "her cause through their organizations" and hope to make out like bandits.

It's all about the mighty greenbacks, and nothing else.

I'm not sure what the rules are for federal lock-up, but going to the state or county prison/jail in Oregon, you're charged $10 a day for your guest accommodations.

Speaking of Oregon, I was on the phone with a client from Oregon last week. He told me I said it wrong. How do you pronounce your state? I said Or-eh-Gahn. He said its supposed to be Or-eh-gun

17. Well, not so way to go

A lot of people who get locked up are of limited means, and getting dinged $10 a day for six months or a year in jail puts them thousands of dollars behind the eight ball the second they get out. It can be very discouraging.

Anyway, the folks around here pronounce it "Orygun."

29. The accent is strongly on the first syllable.

OR-eh-gun

The middle syllable is a very quickly pronounced "short" e.

The last syllable isn't exactly "gun" -- it's a softer sound than that.

65. Here's a youtube audio.

The middle syllable doesn't sound like a y (or a long e.)

As you can hear in the audio, when spoken very slowly the last syllable sounds like "gun." But when spoken at a natural speed, it sounds more like "gin" except with a hard g.

Does the second (normal speed) version sound correct to you? It does to me.

I moved to the west coast from the Midwest, pronouncing it or-a-gone and simon learned to say Or-ah-gun with the "ah" being very short, more like Ora-gun.

111. I also had to unlearn the eastern US pronunciation and replace it with a strong 1st syllable accent.

And you're right, that middle syllable is very short -- almost swallowed up. Giving it a "y" or long "ee" sound gives it too much emphasis.

As you indicate, maybe people say it differently in different parts of the state. But I think everyone can agree that no one in Oregon pronounces the third syllable as if it rhymes with "non" -- as people do in the east and midwest U.S.

Here's the Webster's listing.

53. Not if they are in leg irons, I don't think.

The hands are often restrained so there is not much in the way of movement, but they can use them in the event that they trip and fall to break their fall somewhat. http://www.policemag.com/channel/patrol/articles/2013/05/safe-prisoner-transport.aspx

Restraints are probably the first things that come to mind regarding safe transport of any subject, and many options exist. For handcuffs alone the list includes disposable, hinged, chained, and rigid models—from various companies. When it comes to transporting prisoners between facilities, items such as belly chains and leg irons enter the mix as well. The key is knowing when and how to use each, alone and in different combinations.

Chain cuffs are the easiest to put on, but provide the wearer the most ability to move. Hinged cuffs only allow a prisoner to move his or her hands up and down: some linear movement, but no lateral or angular movement. This makes them better suited for transportation over long distances. Rigid cuffs severely restrict wrist movement: no angular, no lateral, no linear movement. They are the most difficult to put on, but also the most difficult for the prisoner to defeat.

“Our best security product for transporting between correctional-type facilities or from a county to a larger facility or from a city jail to a county jail is the rigid cuffs,” says ASP trainer and retired Dallas police sergeant Daryell Harmon. “If I have to transport them over water, the rigid cuff allows me to do a handcuffing procedure in front of their body and I could actually get a lifejacket over them, but at the same time it decreases their mobility and their ability to attack an officer.”

or me, either. They scale up stuff they designed for a 5'8" size 0 model. Or people have to buy fabric and sew their own. If they have any talent, they match things like horizontal stripes at the seams.

It's either that or couture by Omar the Tentmaker, working in polyester.

I don't fault the woman for her looks, in other words. I do fault her for being a sanctimonious prig and a bully who is trying to run a government office like her own personal religious fiefdom. For that, she belongs in jail. Her office will run much better in her absence.

http://www.makingitbig.com/

I used to be a big fan of Clinton and Stacy and their What Not to Wear Program.

Yes, she is a sanctimonious prig and bully. But she's not doing herself any favors by refusing
to dress attractively. But...that goes along with her whole psyche. This is not a happy woman
who feels good about herself.

69. She would have looked a whole lot better is something like either of these two dresses

available from that catalog.

She is being judged by her lack of style--surely you've seen the comparisons to Duggar hair/clothing--and yes, I agree,
that who she is so much worse than what she looks like. But part of my point is that close minded people are often
close minded about all kinds of things and her unwillingness to take a look in the mirror and realize she could be
much different on the outside is symptomatic of the fact she won't shine that light on her inside, either. The woman
doesn't want to present herself in an attractive way because, deep down, she doesn't believe she's attractive on the
inside. And she's right. She isn't.

40. Agree 100%

I've been shopping with my wife often enough to know that what you say is 100% true.

A couple of other people found random internet pictures; they clearly haven't ever compared the clothes in the women's section of Macy's (or any other brick and mortar dept store) and the clothes at the exact same store that come in -- God forbid -- size 16+.

(It's kind of hard to find clothes that fit me, too, but I'm male: a size 40 inch waist is always the same on the Internet. Women have it worse, because all of their sizes seem to be made-up bullshit)

Watch a season of project runway when they have "real women" challenges. They lose their shit. "I don't design clothes for real women"! One of the designers (with several extra pounds of his own) made his real woman model feel horrible. He even berated her for having...omg....breasts!

Weight is a health issue that is hard to control for many people. I've struggled with it my entire life.

But how I style my hair or what clothing I choose can be discussed. If you are going to a formal occasion, you wear formal attire. If at work, wear appropriate clothing for work. This woman wears a hair style common to the snake handler faiths of rural Appalachia ( I lived there once) and dresses in their style. No Offense - but those faiths are evil and hate LGBT people with their entire might.

My hair has nothing to do with my religion.

And - as for attire - I guess it is fair game to mock Clinton for her choices to wear pantsuits and (previously) headbands, then. Oh, wait, that was sexist.

What is being mocked isn't her occasion-based choice. It is the fact that the styles she chooses to wear don't appeal to those doing the mocking - just like Clinton's didn't to those who mocked her. Not one of the comments I have seen suggested that she wasn't wearing garb appropriate for the occasion. They criticized a jumper (I have one of those I wear, as well - at my current weight it is one of the most comfortable things I have), and stripes that weren't matched at the seams.

70. Wow. I had no idea that on a liberal board someone would be criticized

for daring to suggest someone could benefit from a personal shopper or design advice.

I was a fan of Clinton and Stacy's show, "What Not to Wear" on TLC for years.
They could take anyone, any size, and transform her look and how she felt about
herself looking in the mirror.

For those of you who might be interested, there are lots of blogs by 'plus size' women, designed
to provide information on how to achieve a fashionable look for that size.

Start here with a list http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-2230047/Fat-women-need-realize-bodies-worth-dressing-Meet-plus-size-bloggers-change-shape-fashion.html

and then take a look at Marie Claire's plus-size columnist blog http://www.nicolettemason.com/

Among her favorite on-line stores is this one with plus sizes http://www.modcloth.com/?SSAID=687298&utm_medium=affiliate&utm_source=sas&utm_campaign=687298&utm_content=417942&gate=false

Scrolling through the modcloth catalog, she'd have looked much better in this (sorry, image won't copy you'll have to click)

http://www.modcloth.com/shop/dresses/ready-wheeling-and-able-dress-in-irises

than what she chose to wear, and it's in the same color palette. And if you check the reviews, someone bought it in a 3X and was very happy with it. If she wanted her arms covered, she could have worn a light shrug or sweater over it, like this
http://www.modcloth.com/shop/cardigans/charter-school-cardigan-in-sky

I rest my case.

It isn't that they don't like women wearing pants, it is that they don't like women - so attacking about them - including their clothing choices is perceived as fair game. It's called misogyny. And it is no more appropriate directed at Kim Davis than it was at Clinton. (As for ill-fitting - nothing in the photo I have seen is ill-fitted. You just don't agree with her choice of clothing.)

doesn't make it appropriate for you to use her choice of clothing to ridicule her. Any more than it was appropriate when people were ridiculing Clinton for wearing headbands or pantsuits. The vast majority of appearance attacks are on women, not men. That makes it misogynistic.

84. Believe what you want.

That's what Kim is doing. She's believing that she's going to go to hell if
she follows the law. I'm sure it doesn't matter at all to her that
many Christian denominations support marriage equality. I'm sure
it doesn't matter to her that many Christian churches don't
issue dress codes for women that make sure they are dowdy and frumpy
and have little choice in what to wear, how to style their hair, or
choose to wear jewelry and make-up.

She makes her choices. You make your choices.

I still stand by my statement: it is not misogyny to suggest a woman could choose
more attractive clothing. It is misogyny to insist women have little choice in
what they wear because some mythical sky daddy wouldn't approve. That is simply
patriarchal religion demeaning women because if some man didn't tell them what to wear
they'd be going to hell, and that, my friend, is real misogyny.

100. You won't find her smiling because she is not a happy person.

What's she doing? Denying people the right to a marriage license...something she's been
able to obtain four times...which suggests she's either had lousy luck at love, or made
bad decisions, or hasn't met the right person, or maybe, just maybe, she's not a happy
person and doesn't attract happy people to her.

Personally, I think the woman feels as though she's a loser. She has joined
a church which demeans women--tells them how to dress, what to wear,
how to style their hair--and she thinks she is of little value. Many times
people with low opinions of themselves will find ways to devalue someone else--
because that makes them feel more worthy--so it fits that she'd--as a devalued
woman in a patriarchal fundy church--find a way to allow herself to feel
superior by denying gays--especially males--a right to do something she herself
has done four times. Just look! Jesus loves her and not gays! She must be worth
something after all.

On top of that, she's never been anywhere. Never traveled. Never lived anywhere else.
She is totally provincial. Her religion wants her that way: members are advised to live
apart from the world. She grew up with authority figures: worked for her mother for
20 some years in the same job. Claims she found Jesus as a result of a mother in law
who wanted her to join the church. This is not a woman who is used to making decisions
for herself--at least ones that turn out well (4 marriages), so maybe she figures she
should submit to the authority of "God".

Well, ok. She's entitled to make that choice. But she is NOT entitled to abuse or
not the follow the oath of office she took when she was sworn in as County Clerk.
So, for now, she is where she belongs. In jail. The US is a nation of laws, not
individual people deciding to follow whatever law they want whenever they want
because of whatever peculiar religious notion they may hold.
