declawed abandoned tiger cub found wandering around Calif. neighborhood

look at the size of those paws!!

An abandoned tiger cub was found wandering the streets of a California neighborhood on Thursday.

The three-month old male was turned into the Ramona Humane Society in San Jacinto, Calif., by a woman who said she found the cub wandering through her Hemet, Calif., neighborhood.

The shelter posted a video of the cub drinking water on Facebook. The group said, "as an open admission shelter we [accept] all animals including this tiger found in our community."

Department of Fish and Wildlife later transferred the cub 70 miles to an exotic animal sanctuary in Phelan, a little over an hour from Los Angeles.

The cub is suffering from a hernia and was declawed, according to Joel Almquist, the owner of Forever Wild Exotic Animal Sanctuary, where the cub is now staying. Almquist said when large cats are declawed the procedure involves cutting through bones, tendon and nerves.

"Declawing does a lot of damage to cats," Almquist told USA TODAY Network. He said the sanctuary plans on working with a reconstructive surgeon to ensure the cub does not have chronic pain.

----

"Zoos won't take tigers if they don't know the bloodline, so he will be living his life in a sanctuary," He said, adding, "hopefully here."

There should be a special and exceedingly unpleasant place for people who do shit like this.

I hope he makes it to a nice, open big cat sanctuary where he will be safe from idiot humans.

Those paws are gonna be the size of catchers' mitts someday.

It is criminal, IMO.

On edit: They specify big cats, but it does damage to the household variety, too.

I understand that in England vets will not declaw cats.

has had them in the past and will again in the future, I accept clawed furniture or my getting clawed on occasion simply part of the bargain.

I knew I liked you for a reason . I found the best way to avoid scratched furniture was to first have several acceptable scratching posts and to carry along a squirt gun. It only took a few little squirts of water to make the cat refrain from scratching what it shouldn't. Oh, and fresh tuna from time to time

On edit: I got scratched from time to time, but that is part of the deal. The other part is having a cat on your lap, purring away as you scratch it behind the ear. Nothing is as relaxing as a purring cat, IMO

Have been since I was very young and would bring home strays in the hopes my parents would let me keep them.

I am currently without cats as I live alone and do a lot of travelling these days, so having any creature that needs any regular attention simply isn't possible. But someday I will be a crazy cat lady. I look forward to that. I will also, when I resume cats in my life, go to the shelter and adopt the oldest ones I can find, as they are so much less likely to be adopted. Someday, someday.

I love them, though- they aren't butt kissers like dogs. My ideal evening is sitting in a nice big comfy chair, reading a book, smoking a pipe, with a cat in my lap. Comfort to the extreme.

a purring cat on my lap is total bliss.

I had a cat some years back who, towards the end of her life, stopped purring. It was quite weird. She was getting older, and showing signs of age, but everything she did was quite normal. Except that she no longer purred. The vet had no explanation, said he'd never had that reported to him before. About two weeks before she died, she resumed purring, but that only lasted a week.

was a hippy intellectual, who love reading, cats, and a pipe. Maybe that is why I like a pipe so much. "A pipe gives a wise man time to think, and a fool something to stick in his mouth". C S Lewis

Enter the Lions Tigers & Bears sanctuary and sanctuary founder Bobbi Brink. Lions Tigers & Bears specializes in providing homes for 50-plus "rescue" animals, including jungle cats, horses, a pot-bellied pig, llamas and various fowl.

Brink offered a permanent home to the cub. Her sanctuary also provided space for Meatball, the California black bear discovered roaming the neighborhoods of Glendale, La Crescenta and Montrose in 2012.

Meatball, whose age is unknown, is a celebrity of sorts at Lions Tigers & Bears. He weighs 410 pounds and enjoys eating salmon and avocados and swimming in a small pool, officials said.

The 25-pound tiger, as yet unnamed, arrived in Alpine on Saturday.

The animal is "resting, eating well and exploring his new environment," according to the sanctuary's Facebook page.

Monday will be a big day: "He'll be making his media debut and checking in with the veterinarian."

Is it some rich dickhead like trump who is buying a tiger or some scum trying to sell tiger parts to idiot Chinese/vietnamese men who think it will make them virile or cure illness.

Will someone please tell these men that no amount of tiger or rhinoceros parts will get women to look at them like they're George Clooney. But enough money might get you a "hot" woman, we see that with trump.
