I need 4 to 6 kid-friendly Obama accomplishments....

Ok, so each kid in my son's 2nd grade class picked a famous person for a brief oral report. My kid (I'm so proud) was the only one who picked Barack Obama. As part of the report, each kid must give 4-6 examples of how the person they picked "made a difference." My son asked me for some more examples besides that he was really cool, a nice man, and played basketball really well. LOL

I started rattling off stuff like he saved General Motors and ended the Iraq War... and my son just gave me a blank stare. I realize half my problem is dumbing it down so kids can understand. Help!

P.S. I realize this is also good practice for discussions with Republicans.

ObamaCare, expanding Medicaid.

Here's a list: http://obamaachievements.org/list

I wish I had statistics to show that things are getting better for children... but unfortunately I don't.

I just checked it out and there's stuff in there about $348 million to NIH in stimulus grants to young scientists. IN particular, there's a new $20 million program: the Summer Research Experiences for Students and Science Educators, which will provide summer jobs for high school and college students, and for teachers to work in science labs. That's right up my budding mad scientist's alley.

And SCHIP can fairly be described as "helping parents pay doctor bills for their children." I think he'll understand that. Ok, I think I have four...

Every kid knows what a car is and every kid knows what a war is.

Hell, a lot of adults don't understand what happened there. I figure he'd say something like Obama stopped the fighting in a country far away called Iraq that was getting a lot of our soldiers hurt.

O.K., that's two....four to go. When I mentioned Obama got Osama Bin Laden, my kid didn't know who Bin Laden was--I guess because he was born 2 years after 9/11.
