Former N.J. mayor gets 25 years in prison for repeatedly raping relative's child

A former disgraced mayor of Marlboro was sentenced on Friday to 25 years in a Delaware prison for raping a child. He was the Republican mayor of Marlboro, N.J., from 1992 to 2003.

The attacks occurred when the girl was 6 years old, starting in 2006 shortly after Scannapieco moved to Delaware and following his guilty plea to charges of tax evasion and accepting $245,000 in bribes in New Jersey.

The assaults continued until 2008 when he was sentenced to 21 months in prison on those federal corruption charges.

*Scannapieco pleaded guilty last month to rape, unlawful sexual contact and continuous sex abuse of a child," van Amerongen said.

He said Davis cited Scannapieco's lack of remorse, his need for treatment and the age and vulnerability of the victim as some of the reasons for the heavy sentence.

The only factor the judge found in Scannapieco's favor, van Amerongen said, was his willingness to plead guilty, which allowed the victim, who is now 16, to avoid testifying at a trial.

Typical for a corrupt pervert, but there have been democrats and republicans who were/are corrupt perverts.

My guess is the guy did make a big deal about how "holy" he was, though.

Just look at Josh Duggar.

Whether a rapist is raping a child or an adult--their motivation isn't about sexual gratification. They are motivated by their desire to terrorize, control and power up on their victim.

Whatever you want to call them--pedophiles, rapists, predators, sexual abusers--they are very broken, dysfunctional, weak people. They are cowards. Because they feel so out of control when it comes to their own lives--they only way they feel they can have some control is by powering up on someone else.

How does this guy get the label former disgraced?

He needs to be sent away never to see the light of day. His political thoughts are not relevant.

How the hell does a convicted felon and disgraced elected official who repeatedly raped a young child for years not receive a life sentence?

Although I do not condone violence against inmates by fellow prisoners as a form of punishment, I will lose no sleep knowing that Scannapieco will be decidedly unpopular while incarcerated.

Because lawmakers and our federal government don't want a War on Pedophiles or a War on Rapists.

Our legislators--who are overwhelmingly male--and our federal government, our DAs, our cops and our judges--also overwhelmingly male-- do not want to make life too messy or difficult for rapists and child rapists and molesters.

Our state and federal politicians want life to be very easy for rapists.

Now, if you are addicted to pills or you smoke pot, you are a dangerous threat to 'Muricca and you must be locked away for life in many cases.

Rape a six year old? There doesn't seem to be a DA, a legislator or a judge who wants any increase in penalties to more than a few years if that.

Rape is fine with our politicians. We need jail cells for addicts.

Logical, sane jurisprudence. That's what it's all about.

Right?

creates a bigger possibility that he may ultimately be granted some form of parole, commutation or compassionate release.

I'm a firm believer that subject to proper due process, conviction and opportunity to appeal, pedophiles should spend the remainder of their days duly incarcerated.

I just don't have to like accommodating such a monster so he doesn't get to again torture his victim.

As I indicated earlier, I don't believe in prison violence as an unofficial component of a judicial sentence, but will shed no tears when this pedophile finds no friends in prison.

In all, Davis sentenced Scannapieco to 58 years in prison, with a mandatory 25 years of that term to be served behind bars.

well, it's not unfortunate that she got the right answer...it's unfortunate that is the correct answer. Rape is not a crime that is taken as seriously in sentencing as other similarly-violent crimes, regardless who the victim is or the circumstances of the crime.

Even former Waterbury, CT mayor Phil Giordano (who makes this guy look like a saint) only got 37 years for similar crimes.
