Finlands prime minister, Juha Sipila, has said he will give up his home to accommodate refugees, part of a growing trend of politicians making personal gestures to help those fleeing war and persecution.
Mr Sipila is the first European leader to make such a concrete gesture, giving a date and specifying a location for when refugees can start moving in.
Speaking to Finlands national broadcaster YLE, Mr Sipila said his family had a home in Kempele, central Finland, that they rarely used since they moved to the capital, Helsinki.
We should all take a look in the mirror and ask how we can help, he said.

(1,701 posts)1. He's risen to the occasion, as has Merkel.
Cameron had to be shamed by his fellow citizens to grudgingly agree to take some in. I am disgusted by the responses I have read on many news sites: many people want to deny that the Syrians and others ARE refugees, and insist that they are economic migrants just looking for a more prosperous country. No mention by these people of the fact that Syria and Iraq are engulfed in war, and that nobody entrust their family's lives to an over-crowded dinghy unless they are desperate.
