All in all, cops are the biggest beneficiaries of the occupy movement.

What better jobs program could there be? If there wasn't demand for thousands of cops to oversee these protests, cops might find themselves without a job as well.

It's not like OWS protesters have all that much stuff the cops can confiscate..

2. What is with the obsession with blaming cops for every ill on this board today?

No, people who protest peacefully will not find the cops bothering them. Large gatherings of people, no matter how good a purpose they have, could attract people who start shit. Then the rest need protection.

Whatever is being protested, I notice, seems not to be enough. There has to be a "cop attack" and then the attack on cops generally? What was being protested? Framing the issue this way causes that to become a nullity.

3. Where was I "blaming cops"?

I'm just saying they should be thankful whenever there's a protest, regardless of what kind, since that means they won't find themselves on the street.

4. I don't think you have any proof or way of knowing how cops are assigned

but you're talking about them, not about whatever you're protesting. So consider the protest a big fail.

5. Protests last for mere hours. Sometimes over a weekend.

Cities don't increase taxes to pay for more cops so they can have greater numbers for these rare events.

That's ridiculous. And you have nothing to back it up with. This is just another venting thread devoid of information.

9. Seems like a subtle way of saying the police are acting in concert again for their own interests.

By implication.

Otherwise, there is no point to your post. You may as well say that ice cream is sold more often in the summer.

10. Cops are hardly in control of when and where there is a protest.

So no, they are not acting in concert for their own interests.

Never mind, I suppose I shouldn't have made such a remark considering all the other threads on cops that are currently up.

11. I would think that most cops absolutely HATE being on the front lines of a mass protest.

The chances of getting injured or causing an injury that can ruin your career are much greater than going out on regular patrols.

And, if they have to go to court over an arrest, that's probably more over-time.
