"In our day these economic truths have become accepted as self-evident. We have accepted, so to speak, a second Bill of Rights under which a new basis of security and prosperity can be established for all—regardless of station, race, or creed.

Among these are:

*The right to a useful and remunerative job in the industries or shops or farms or mines of the nation;

*The right to earn enough to provide adequate food and clothing and recreation;

*The right of every farmer to raise and sell his products at a return which will give him and his family a decent living;

*The right of every businessman, large and small, to trade in an atmosphere of freedom from unfair competition and domination by monopolies at home or abroad;

*The right of every family to a decent home;

*The right to adequate medical care and the opportunity to achieve and enjoy good health;

*The right to adequate protection from the economic fears of old age, sickness, accident, and unemployment;

*The right to a good education.

All of these rights spell security. And after this war is won we must be prepared to move forward, in the implementation of these rights, to new goals of human happiness and well-being.

America's own rightful place in the world depends in large part upon how fully these and similar rights have been carried into practice for all our citizens."--- FDR, Economic BIll of Rights

There was a time, not so long ago, when voting FOR the Democratic Party
was voting FOR the above values.
Sadly, this is no longer true.

You will know them by their WORKS,
not by their excuses.

Unfortunately, the Dems have been slipping to the Right for too long.

So often, I feel like I'm an "historian" for younger people who didn't know,

for instance, that we did NOT have a "homeless problem" in this country

until the Reagan Administration or that support for Labor "was", at least,

a CORNERSTONE of the Democratic party,

I'm getting truly disgusted....Medicare and Social Security are the Last Straws...If

these "democrats" renege on that, my husband and I are out of here.

screwed if not for Social Security. I was disabled (car accident) when I was 47. I could no longer work. My youngest had just graduated high school. As a single mother, I was starting to get to a relatively secure place - was entertaining thoughts of traveling - when BLAM! everything was turned upside down and inside out. If there was no Social Security, I cannot even imagine where I would be today. And I would have NO health care coverage because I became a pre-existing condition the instant that car slammed into us.

many seniors, probably far more than we might estimate.

It will also mean guilt-tripping young people, impoverishing young families and destroying the social fabric of the country.

It is insane. It is self-destructive -- since so many Republican voters are seniors. It is a sure sign of the demise of the Republican mystique, the Republican Party. They have no solutions for the problems we face as a nation.

for fighting for what has been the most successful program. I shudder to think what it would be like without Social Security. Many would be destitute without it. Wish there was more like Sanders.
