My grandfather was a sapper in the Royal Engineers, badly wounded in Third Ypres and invalided out in October, 1918. He and his family (including my Dad) emigrated here in 1922. I've often thought that were it not for that awful war and its consequences - which we still deal with today - I wouldn't be here.
