Seeing your government dollars at work in email chains about president Obamas birth certificate is somewhere between hilarious and exasperating.
On one end, Arizona Secretary of State Ken Bennett has suggested the president might not make it onto the November ballot there unless he can surmise whether Obama was truly born in Hawaii. On the other, Hawaii officials have been dealing with similar requestsand answering them along with the presidentfor years now.
Talking Points Memo obtained the email exchange, in which Bennett and his office are repeatedly rebuffed by the Hawaii Attorney Generals office in requesting further verification of Obamas birth in Kapiolani Maternity and Gynecological Hospital in 1961.
The Hawaii office asks for proof of legal authority for the request, and whether Bennett plans to further verify the birthplaces of all the candidates who will be on the ballot. Other emails obtained show Bennett answering birther constituents who question his commitment to questioning the presidents eligibility. If they read his emails, they would probably stop questioning him.

(31,706 posts)The President is elected in 50 seperate elections...the only people who do vote in the federal election are the members of the electoral college. In theory those electors vote according to how their state voted but they aren't obligated. It's up to the states on how they conduct elections (remember all the goofy messes in Florida in 2000??). Thus Bennett could make things real messy for President Obama...I'm not sure his jurisdiction of not putting his name on the ballot, but in most states its the SOS who is responsible for the printing of ballots and counting of votes.
