(12,655 posts)it is a pitiful shame that one of the two parties can't find ONE FUCKING REASONABLE PERSON!!

(12,655 posts)but the fact the other side can't produce one even semi reasonable person is so sad.

(14,691 posts)I'm old enough to remember when Republicans were sort of normal - there were conservative Republicans (of course) moderate Republicans and even (GASP!) liberal Republicans. There's a big convention center in NYC named after a liberal Republican - Jacob Javits.

(12,655 posts)they used to be normal people, just conservative.

Garrett78
(10,721 posts)I'd say Kasich won. And a Kasich-Rubio ticket would represent the Republican Party's best chance at winning. But that's probably lost on the audience.
Garrett78
(10,721 posts)But I also think that ticket (Ohio-Florida, relatively sane candidates) would give the GOP their best shot.

(20,049 posts)Republicans can beat us if they get more people out to vote than we do in key states.
I don't think it's likely, but it's still a possibility I pay attention to at all times. Over the past 16 or so years of my adult life I've witnessed some things take place in politics I wouldn't have thought possible from a thinking, intelligent population. If I end up seeing one of these blathering idiots become president I will be surprised, but not totally shocked.

Fiorina did get a big applause line but I don't think she's sustainable.
Carnival Cruz is whiney--his voice grates. I've spent some time looking at the television, and some time listening to vocal tone alone, and Cruz is ANNOYING.
Huckabee looks unready.
Rand Paul did have 'a' response to a question that sounded 'adult,' but he's not being given much opportunity.
Carson sounds like the same idiot in "Bad Lip Reading" on YouTube.
Jeb is very forgettable. Rubio, too.
Kasich needs more questions--he sounds the most mature.
It really IS a clown car.

(32,886 posts)would the Republican base think won.
A normal person would probably think Rubio or Kasich won.
The Repug base? I'm guessing they are going to think Trump won again.
Garrett78
(10,721 posts)A Kasich-Rubio ticket (Ohio-Florida, relatively sane candidates) would give the GOP their best shot. But, like you, I doubt the Repugnant base would agree and is probably barely aware of who Kasich is.
I honestly don't have any idea how the average Republican would answer the question posed in the OP, as I don't have access to a brain that works the same way. Maybe Fiorina. Maybe Carson. Hell, maybe even Trump, though it seems he got slapped around pretty good tonight.
Mainstream candidates, especially Bush, seem to be totally thrown off by the presence of and seeming success of Trump. Trump says something outrageously rude or false (or both), Bush responds, Trump denies and insults, they go back and forth a bit, and in the end it seems like the audience is on Trump's side. It serves those mainstream candidates right, because they've established a climate in which extremism and nonsense can take hold. I might add that the Democrats are complicit, as well, in that they haven't voiced a strong enough opposition over the years.
