Romney Promises an Unemployment rate of 6%

Mitt Romney told Mark Halperin that if he's elected president "we'd get the unemployment rate down to 6%, and perhaps a little lower."

However, just a few weeks ago, as NBC News reported, Romney said that anything "over 4% is not cause for celebration."

http://politicalwire.com/archives/2012/05/23/romney_promises_unemployment_rate_of_6.html

Considering that Obama has gotten the Unemployment rate down from a high of 10.2% to about 8.1% it is probable if the recovery holds the Unemployment rate would eventually drop to about 6%.

No, I didn't think so.

One really does have to start wondering whether Romney is dumb.

4% is below the "full employment" rate in our current economy, meaning that4% unemployment would be inflationary.

That may be good or not good but I doubt Rmoney would say that an inflationary unemployment rate is desirable.

Romney's statement:

Mitt Romney told Mark Halperin that if he's elected president "we'd get the unemployment rate down to 6%, and perhaps a little lower ... before my policies take affect and sky-rocket the unemployment rate right back to 10.2%, or higher. The markets require high unemployment to force wages even lower."

It will be that low because there will be NO more unemployment benefits. Either work for $3.00 an hour or get nothing. I can see it now.

16. Romney Pledges 6% Unemployment – Exactly What CBO Already Projects
Wed May 23, 2012, 03:10 PM
May 2012
Mitt Romney, who often chides President Obama for presiding over unenployment rates above 8%, told TIME that he would get that number down to 6% as president.

Oddly enough, that’s almost exactly where the Congressional Budget Office predicts unemployment will be at the end of the next presidential term. While hardly the most reliable number this far out, CBO’s latest report sees unemployment dropping to the low-sixes in 2016 en route to about 5.5% unemployment by the end of 2017.
