Mitt Romney told Mark Halperin that if he's elected president "we'd get the unemployment rate down to 6%, and perhaps a little lower."
However, just a few weeks ago, as NBC News reported, Romney said that anything "over 4% is not cause for celebration."

Considering that Obama has gotten the Unemployment rate down from a high of 10.2% to about 8.1% it is probable if the recovery holds the Unemployment rate would eventually drop to about 6%.

4% is below the "full employment" rate in our current economy, meaning that4% unemployment would be inflationary.
That may be good or not good but I doubt Rmoney would say that an inflationary unemployment rate is desirable.

mouth it is a must to find out how he plans to achieve 6% unemployment.

(8,571 posts)Oddly enough, thats almost exactly where the Congressional Budget Office predicts unemployment will be at the end of the next presidential term. While hardly the most reliable number this far out, CBOs latest report sees unemployment dropping to the low-sixes in 2016 en route to about 5.5% unemployment by the end of 2017.
