(17,111 posts)It looks to me like a lot of games I have seen with kids his age. They barely have the concepts of the game down. They sit down in the outfield and chase bugs. ALL of them may run for the ball when it's hit no matter what position they play.
Take your analysis and go away. He's a little kid. In addition, he wasn't saying " Did you like that Daddy?" "Was that okay?" He wanted to stop and tell him something important. And it WAS important.

If you want to see children at play and some of the really lovable things they do go watch the little ones learning to play.

(25,586 posts)when good stuff happens. Our son will stop and give us the "I love you" hug out of nowhere at the oddest times -- kids have emotions that are very easily activated and they've not "matured" to the point where they've decided they need to keep those emotions hidden.

(17,111 posts)Seriously, I have been surprised at how fast they have gone downhill in bb. We finally got rid of our coach who had been there forever. He seemed to feel longevity beat winning. He was given more seasons than I would have let him have.

(23,973 posts)...park district soccer when they were each 5, we used to call it swarm soccer - wherever the ball was, the kids would be - all of them. No idea of field position or passing, as one would expect.
One year, there was a little girl on the team whose ADD meds were wearing off right about when practice or games would start. She would gaze up at the sky at clouds and airplanes, or pick clover flowers out of the grass. On that same team, there was a little boy who would, to his mother's distress, spend most of the games with his hand down the front of his shorts, amusing himself, so to speak.
Funny memories.

(25,586 posts)on to the field to play in front of the crowd. It's exactly as you describe -- big, tangled knots of kids all following the ball together while two very distracted keepers gleefully watch everything except the game.

(17,111 posts)Their baserunning was straight out of Keystone Kops. They got so mixed up one time, I don't think the umpires really got it right but who cared.
