(6,107 posts)And I will be escorting on Thursday at A PP clinic. Doing so for almost 25 years.
I urge those interested to volunteer at their local clinic if they have one. Many opportunities, including hand-holding (women only of course) and escorting and phone-banking and more. PP offers excellent training.

(9,110 posts)the conservatives can afford to spend money tearing down essential services. But those who need them cannot be spread as thin as necessary to defend them. I can't afford to donate anymore. Too many personal costs as it is. They know we are poorer than they are, and can force us to spend every cent we have before the election rolls around.

I'm going to bring that up to my family.
Are you familiar with Women on Waves? I literally dream of dropping everything and dedicating my life to helping them. This film changed me. http://vesselthefilm.com

(38,311 posts)If your religious leaders object then it's because they don't know shit.
My parents, and my wife's parents, had many children Catholic style, until they began to notice this earth was getting a little too crowded with humans, not to mention their own homes.
In my childhood homes my parents and nursing babies lived in one bedroom, girls in another bedroom, boys and assorted very odd and crazy people (including occasionally my grandparents) sleeping wherever.
Bounced in and out of college a few times, I'd sometimes sleep on the porch, especially if I drove in late at night and didn't want to wake any lunatic humans. The dogs would be quietly happy to see me again and some of them would sleep with me, happy joyful creatures.
I still sleep with dogs. Our animal shelter rescue dogs radiate joy and keep us warm on cold nights.
You can only have so many people living in a house with one bathroom before frictions develop, or worse, the septic tank stops accepting new deliveries and it's another boys pee and bathe outside day.
My mom had "Choose Life" license plate frames on her car. But she didn't have any trouble talking to her children and whoever else was staying with us about sex and birth control, and that yes, sex was fun. But she was also was adamant we could bring any kids we birthed, intentionally or by accident, home.
My siblings and I were so terrified of bringing more people into the crowded family home that none of us had children until we were far away and well established on our own. My wife's family is similar. The large Catholic family thing stopped in our parent's generation.
One of my siblings has a grandchild raised as her own, a girl I've no problem accepting as a niece or grandniece, however she chooses. She also carries the family autistic spectrum baggage, but that's another story.
Every child born deserves to be a cherished child. In wretched circumstances where that doesn't seem possible Planned Parenthood can still help.
I'm a heretic and the child of a matriarchy. Our children ought to know everything there is to know about sex and reproduction even before it begins to interest them, so they can stay out of trouble.
If parents are unwilling to teach and support their own children, we must have agencies like Planned Parenthood who are.
