9-Yr-Old's Lunch Blog Shames School into Making Changes

Martha Payne had some sad-ass lunches at her school in Scotland — unsatisfying food that sometimes had more hair than vegetables. So the 9-year-old decided to start a blog with photos and vital statistics about her meals. Almost immediately, the blog got international attention, including from prominent school lunch busybody Jamie Oliver. Result? Martha’s dad just met with the local council, and it announced that kids could have unlimited salad, fruit, and bread.

Great pics, taken by Martha, at link.

Unlimited fruit and salad is a great idea.

(and her brownie, which she said was “better than Dad’s”). And I hope the school council enjoys the taste of crow.'

or didn't say about anything. They didn't even argue with anything she actually said, they made up ridiculous lies about what she said so they could pretend to be outraged at her.

I suspect in most school districts in the US, they'd respond to a blog like this one by killing the messenger. They'd prohibit the students from taking pictures, and promptly suspend any who do.

Michelle and Barack Obama are going to keep on doing good things and the people who hate them without good cause will be defined by their hatred.

Or something. It's hard to fake right-wing outrage these days, because my imagination doesn't go that far into crazy

(and we know how the Supreme Court feels about broccoli...)

Our school lunches (and the breakfasts) are abysmal in this country. That improved lunch looks pretty good, actually.

Not every kid will eat it but if it is like a salad bar that they can just take what they want then there is a chance that even the picky ones will try something. And those that do like fruit and veg won't be forced to eat deep fried frozen processed stuff.
