Gun Control

I see many are applauding the President on Gun Control and I do as well. However, our opportunity for gun control was in 2009-2010 when we held both houses of Congress and for a little while had 60 Senators. That was the time for the President to pass comprehensive Gun Control. We had it in our hands easily. Suddenly when we do not have the Congress at all, the President is asking Congress to pass what should already have been passed. How can he not apologize to every American for not doing the job already. I am so disappointed that nothing was done during that incredible opportunity. The Republicans couldn't even complain about it because they couldn't stop it at all. We had a blank check!

I suppose I will be bashed by this but I imagine everyone will agree even if they don't want to.

Sad. Missed opportunities.

People dead.

More profits over people.

I respect your reply, but even with some DINOs, we still had 10 that could have voted no and still passed especially if we got rid of that stupid unnecessary filibuster and make everything pass with 50 votes except Supreme Court perhaps.

you'll notice my disclaimer about my posts being my opinion. Indeed everyone's posts on DU, if they are not quotes from someone else, are the opinion of the poster. Even your reply to me. Yes, what I posted was my opinion. So?

He could have done the same with marijuana legalization, closing Gitmo, prosecuting war criminals, prosecuting bankers, single payer, the Fairness Doctrine, you name it.

Unfortunately he was handed a flaming bag of shit on inauguration day and had to do the best he could. There are are no shortage of disappointments I've had in Obama's decisions but I think we'll have to wait for a little history to pass before we can make a clear assessment of his presidency.

Al Franken wasn't seated for several months after the 2008 election because of the recount that dragged on and on. And a short time after he finally was seated, Ted Kennedy died. And that was the end of 60 votes in the Senate.

But it seems silly since the only thing you won was bragging points over some unanimous poster. Proud moment I'm sure. What I am saying is that it is SAD that we missed a chance at gun control even with 57-58-59 democratic senators. Heck 4 Repugs voted for gun control 2-years ago so whose to say it wouldn't have passed if TRIED? However you can bask in your win while the rest of us figure out a plan for gun control.

Contatulations! So proud of you! You won! Oh heck I'll clap too, it seems like such an accomplishment to you that I won't ruin your moment.

Incredible opportunity that we had. Why 50 years you ask? That was the last time we had everything and could get things passed. Oh well. You win I guess. I find that strange that you find yourself excited over this win against me. What exactly did you win?

That would have been the result of President Obama forcing comprehensive gun control in 2009/10. I do want meaningful gun control.
