is that an adbot identifies the common words on a page and then puts up ads that are related to the topics indicated by the words on the page.

For example, on my Grammar and Usage for the Non-Expert website, the adbot puts up ads about grammar checking software programs. On a page with my article about penmanship, the adbot puts up ads for books or programs about penmanship or calligraphy.

On DU, we are always mentioning Republican politicians or the Republican Party. The adbot is just a program. It doesn't know we don't like the Republicans that we keep mentioning. It only knows we keep talking about them. It figures that Republicans are our major interest, and it puts up ads that its program identifies as being geared toward the interests of the people who read the DU pages.
