(52,440 posts)your first reaction, and likely subconscious take-away, is that obama IS a profligate spender, especially if you're subconsciously looking for reinforcement of that meme.
sadly, propaganda is really hard to counter. or at least, it's really hard to counter without spending considerable time on the topic....

(90,370 posts)....be responding UPFRONT and fast with memes conservatives are lying about but they don't...historically liberals just let the lies come out and say nothing or respond after a meme has settled with facts as if people care about them

(52,440 posts)the problem is more of the money behind it. the republican lies are supported by a well-financed media campaign, and the democratic responses are just a few individuals doing what they can.
so the democratic responses are there, but tend to get drowned out and largely ignored by the media.

(11,087 posts)but both times the reporters took the lazy way of just verifying that Republicans said what they said, and refused to make the judgmental call that what they said was untrue. That requires a second level of digging. Corporate media these days is too cost-conscious to do that kind of research. Campaign staffers and surrogates have to do that work for the reporters now.
