So, the question arises: Why don't we have a Wisconsin jobs report out there for Q1? he asks. It's been two weeks since the department had that data. I assume they have a computer that can add up the numbers in the reports from employers. So what's the holdup?
The third- and fourth-quarter UI numbers were what Walker used last week when he released a report showing Wisconsin gaining jobs over the past year rather than losing them as BLS has estimated.
Of course, the timing for the Q4 numbers was political, writes Torinus. But it is also good policy to have the freshest, cleanest numbers to work with. So, again, why haven't the Q1 2012 numbers been made public? DWD has had them for two weeks. Someone should get fired if they aren't released in the next week or so.
Cynics might argue that the Walker administration would have already released the Q1 numbers if they showed Wisconsin adding jobs. Conversely, if the numbers look bad, they might hold off until after the June 5 recall election.
