One is far more realistic then the other.
He literally ridiculed a vet...bad move.

(14,691 posts)Carson is a reprehensible P.O.S. extraordinaire, and considering the rest of the Repug clowns that's saying something. I can't understand why he's been doing so well.

(50,300 posts)and decided to see what Fox was talking about. Sure enough, the guy who isn't Steve Doucy was interviewing someone who agreed (with non-Steve Doucy) that Ben Carson was 100% correct with his gun comments. It's like an alternate universe over there.

(7,960 posts)There's something about Carson's appeal to a certain type of Republican, especially those of the Evangelical Christian variety that seems to be unshakable. He seems to have this uncanny ability to mirror their thoughts in ways that are shocking to the rest of us but which sounds like common sense to them. Perhaps he really is one of them, a Bible believing Christian, a man who despite his education and accomplishments has a deep fundamentalist religious faith.
I just saw the focus group on Morning Joe talking about him. It was rather unbelievable but they do see him as the savior of this country, a man of wisdom and faith. They love his quiet reserved demeanor and are certain that he would bring peace to this troubled land.
I think too that many people when imagining what they would do in such a situation, do think that they would try and take the shooter down. This may be fantasy thinking on their part, no one knows what they would do until they're in that sort of situation--most would probably be on their knees pleading for their lives--but in the vision of themselves that they hold in their hearts they would indeed be heroes.
At any rate, I predict that this won't hurt him.

(269,144 posts)The ReTHUG base will never vote for an African-American.
If it ever looked like he would win the primary, they would destroy him.
bklyncowgirl
(7,960 posts)The rank and file of the religious wing of the party will, I think, stay loyal to Carson despite his race. He is one of them. They know they've been screwed over by the GOP establishment which promises but never delivers on the things they care about.
The more cynical leaders in the religious right, the business wing and the neocon wing of the party of course have no intention of nominating someone like Carson. They are in it to win it and yes they will destroy Ben Carson in a heartbeat to clear the way for someone they can work with; Rubio, Kasich or if he can get his foot out of his mouth, Bush.
There's always an evangelical love fest around one of the candidates especially in Iowa. This candidate always comes to grief in the more libertarian New Hampshire and then gets ground down in the deep south where love of Jesus always gives way to love of the military and of guns and of course the deep pockets of those supporting the establishment candidate.
