When you invade other people's countries and tear down their statues or encourage folks to tear them down - the blowback always comes home.

To be truthful there are several statues that should be torn down.

You're lost like Columbus was lost.

And no, they did not think that the world was flat by 1491. They knew it was round. It was already proven.

You don't discover a place that has people already there. Those people knew where they were when Columbus stumbled on them, he thought he was in India.

Enjoy your short stay, Boyscout.

Mon Oct 19, 2015, 04:49 PM
Oct 2015

the earth is 5000 years old?

Yup, let's ignore the fact that millions of humans already inhabited this land later to be called the Americas, having discovered it millennia before. And let's ignore that whole Leif Ericson voyage to Greenland and modern-day Canada around 1000 C.M.E. If Columbus discovered America, he himself didn't know. Until his death he claimed to have landed in Asia, even though most navigators knew he didn't.

What Columbus "discovered" was the Bahamas archipelago and then the island later named Hispaniola, now split into Haiti and the Dominican Republic. On his subsequent voyages he went farther south, to Central and South America. He never got close to what is now called the United States.

but try to create flame bait. I think people will see through your actual political persuasions soon enough.

We are all going to text on our iphones made by the world's worst abusers of human rights while we drive on our roads cut by immigrant indentured servants and wear our tennis shoes and t shirts made from forced child labor.

Then we will celebrate July 4th even though the founders of this country owned and traded slaves. We will eat organic vegetables grown on land Custer stolw from the natives.

We wear leather shoes but order vegetarian cause meat is like wrong. And Leif Erikson discovered America even though the map was most likely a forgery but Vikings are cool and were peace loving and stuff.

The people Columbus found in the Caribbean had, likewise, killed the prior inhabitants and taken over.

Humans do what humans do, and there is no genetic magic that ever prevented any group from engaging in war or genocide.

Pre-Columbian native cultures were as effective at engaging in war and genocide as any other collection of humans.

A Detroit statue erected in 1910 to honor the Italian explorer was vandalized on Monday, a day that happens to be Columbus Day. The statue was splattered with red paint and had a hatchet taped to its forehead.

That's very polite! Wash off the paint, untape the hatchet, and the stupid statue in back in business.

That said, this thread is very interesting--a pro-Columbus spammer? Really? Tony Soprano's crew is bored, or something? Maybe they should listen to Furio:

I think at this point in time more people are becoming aware of Columbus's excesses in service of the Spanish crown. At the time he was behaving reprehensibly, the attitude that anyone who didn't have a developed society was a "savage" (and thus, without merit, on the order of animals--they also believed they didn't have feelings either) held sway. It doesn't excuse their behavior, but it explains why they would act like such blatant assholes.

Fri Mar 11, 2016, 12:57 AM
Mar 2016

hide in a little used thread or group, and rack up posts in a hurry.

A lot of times they think it is cool to go to an OLD thread and post shit. The reason for this is that they used to not bounce up to the top--and if they're posting TO someone who has dropped away from DU (left, died, got PPR'd, whatever) that they can run around talking to that person or persons without getting challenged.

Now the posts seem to be bouncing back up to the top and more people see/notice this odd behavior.

I've found a lot of them in Weird News. I'm the host there, and there's very rarely any trouble, but every so often a troll will go in and start bumping threads from years ago--it's very odd. They don't realize anyone is watching.
