John and Clarence Anglin, very interesting.
Do you believe they survived the swim to San Francisco?

(9,951 posts)There were 14 attempted escapes, 13 were ruled failures because on those failed attempts, the bodies were recovered, but the no bodies were ever recovered on the 14th attempt, so, I'm inclined to believe they made it, re-entered the public and lived out their lives as law abiding citizens.

(5,165 posts)prison in Northern New York, I can believe that patient, motivated, smart prisoners can do more than one can imagine. Perhaps there are times of the year and certain conditions they look for - tides, currents, water temps, etc.
Note: My cousin has done the annual swim from San Francisco to Alcatraz a number of times, even well into his 60's. He trains for these long-distance swims.

(3,490 posts)of the escape is being presented on "Alcatraz-Search for the Truth" a History Channel special. Their survival looks very plausible, almost probable, when the recently released new evidence is put together. Very interesting. The FBI and Bureau of Prisons ignored important evidence in their haste to claim they didn't make it to freedom.

(3,490 posts)exists that the Anglin Brothers escaped to Brazil and were alive at least until 1975. If true, it was an unbelievable plan they developed to get off the island without having to swim.
