Eighteen earthquakes in the East Bay in the last 24 hours.

And I am sitting less than a mile from the Hayward Fault. I'm getting nervous (probably for no good reason).

If you can, you might want to stock up on the stuff needed for the "Big One." CaliforniaPeggy Oct 2015 #1

I work in an old, brick building that used to be a factory here in SF. I can't tell you how many times I've looked at the brick walls and bank of glass windows above my head and wondered what the HELL I would do if a Big One hit while I was here. All you can do is be as prepared as you can. Have your supplies and your emergency plans in place. Practice your escape routes. And sacrifice a loaf of sourdough to the Earthquake Gods.

These old planets, you know.

I don't know if I'm relieved that smaller quakes are relieving pressure, or nervous that it could be the rarer instance of a series causing a major slip. The last hard East Bay thump was less than a half mile from my place - where I didn't even know a branch of the Hayward existed.

Typically though, the more small quakes, the better. That way pressure doesn't build into a Fuck You event.
