And I am sitting less than a mile from the Hayward Fault. I'm getting nervous (probably for no good reason).

(16,327 posts)I work in an old, brick building that used to be a factory here in SF. I can't tell you how many times I've looked at the brick walls and bank of glass windows above my head and wondered what the HELL I would do if a Big One hit while I was here.
All you can do is be as prepared as you can. Have your supplies and your emergency plans in place. Practice your escape routes. And sacrifice a loaf of sourdough to the Earthquake Gods.

I don't know if I'm relieved that smaller quakes are relieving pressure, or nervous that it could be the rarer instance of a series causing a major slip. The last hard East Bay thump was less than a half mile from my place - where I didn't even know a branch of the Hayward existed.
Typically though, the more small quakes, the better. That way pressure doesn't build into a Fuck You event.
