Guitar master and singer Doc Watson was listed in critical condition Thursday at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center after a fall at his home in Deep Gap earlier this week.
Watson's daughter, Nancy, said in a telephone interview that Watson fell Monday.
She said he didn't break any bones but that he's "real sick."
The Watauga Democrat reported Thursday that Watson had an infection.

And here's the maestro playing Deep River Blues in 1991
Bless you Doc.

Doc is my very favorite flat-top picker. When my Dad was alive, we went to see him in Atlanta and sat on the floor and drank our beer out of small buckets.
Get well, Doc.

(5,029 posts)7. Doc Watson is an American treasure
I saw him a few years ago in Raleigh. He was in his mid eighties but didn't seem to be slowing down.
I've been thinking about Doc and some of the older American musicians like Pete Seeger. It's going to be a sad time when we lose these men and women. America will be a little poorer without them.
