Just imagine this:

Most of us are familiar with this quote from John Steinbeck:

“Socialism never took root in America because the poor see themselves not as an exploited proletariat but as temporarily embarrassed millionaires."

Suppose every single member of the 99 %, no matter how stupid he or she might otherwise be, simply divested themselves, once and for all, of that delusion. What do you think would happen?

But as long as there is still a chance of striking it rich, not much would change. And by striking it rich I mean starting a business that becomes so successful that you become a multi millionaire, or deciding to go work in the stock market for a living or becoming a career politician or a movie star. Unfortunately there is that opportunity in this country, small as it may be in actual fact.
