What political act or event could change the 50/50 vote that we see..?

...in most national elections?

It seems that no matter what the Republicans might do or have done, there is no political price to pay. They still maintain about 50% of the total vote.

Are we doomed to this political reality forever? No matter how much a Party or its leaders screw up, there is no political price to pay? Could the Democrats get away with the same lies and actions as the Republicans? Do voters no longer care about anything but Party affiliation?

What incentive does a Party have to do what is right if there is no price to pay for screwing up? Richard Nixon was like a saint compared to these present Republicans. And that is saying a lot.

One would think that after your leader lied to get us into two wars and illegally invaded another country and changed a surplus budget into a budget deficit as far as the eye can see and crashed the stock market and the world economy, then there would be at least a small drop in support for this Party? But it's like nothing ever happened? Party loyalty trumps everything. If these people are rewarded for lies, deception, and outright incompetence, how can we ever escape the false equivalencies?

Do you get to set the standards for which national candidate acts like a Democrat?

If Clinton & Obama didn't act like Democrats, who has? Dukakis? Mondale? McGovern?

Well if those are our options, please, Pres. Obama, keep acting the way you do because it's working. The others? Not so much. They got crushed nationally - all three on the wrong side of some of the most lopsided electoral defeats in modern American history. If that's acting like 'Democrats', well, please, don't.

Democrats lose when they "act" a certain way but Republicans stay right there with their same supporters, no matter how they act. How do you change that?
