He's dangerous and creepy, and would be Zotted at Freeperland for being over-the-top...that's how bad. so I just look at him and smile grimly to myself. Thank God he's got good teeth, otherwise I'd have to see him more than twice a year: today's quote, "It's the Liberals' fault that my co-pays are so high." That's the only sentence which didn't include profanities.

Asshole #2: Pedophilic racist: i had to eliminate "Boys Life" from my magazine rack because he used to tear out pictures surreptitiously (he thought). Hates black people "because" his son-in-law's brother was killed by a drive-by shooter. Incidentally, his son-in-law isn't one tenth as angry at the race and gets along famously with my assistant who is great and happens to be AA. The pedophile has nine lives and has survived every major illness any one of which would have killed me years ago.

Asshole #3: Extreme RW woman, hates working-class folk even though she is one. thinks Teachers should work for minimum wage, and that one of the big problems in America is that the Civil War was also one of abolition. So, I ask her, is she a States' Rights person? Her reply: absolutely, unless the State wants to enforce liberal, commie tendencies like reproductive rights and contraception and worker-safety laws, and voting rights...you get the point. Her second biggest complaint is that Truman integrated the Armed Forces. Needless, to say, she doesn't even mention President Obama, probably for fear of having a visit from the Secret Service.

Now it's time to make a vodka gimlet, kick back, do the laundry, watch the Phillies try to lose another one, and attempt to calm down from a bad day.

I've been on the opposite side of that scenario. Had to borrow the money to see this guy, only other option was the low-income clinic which usually requires a wait of several weeks (although, at present, they're so backlogged that they're not making any dental appointments). Just another of the many perks that come with being in that shamefully greedy half of the population that pays no income tax.

I asked him once why did he choose this particular profession as I think it would be quite aggravating, myself. He said he came from a long line of dentists.

I just can't stand handling with other people if I can avoid it and I don't imagine looking inside someone's mouth is the most attractive way to spend one's day. But I'm very grateful someone wants to do it.

I'd never had an abscess, etc. until a few years ago and it was really bad business and cost me a small fortune. But it had to be done, and I was fortunate to have the money a good dentist and surgeon.

I have made a decision to not put up with such talk - I am surrounded by ultra-wingers.

I decided that my own life experiences are as valid as any one of those losers. I am not Jewish but did grow up in what was considered a Jewish neighborhood - 3 synagogues within walking distance. At a very early age (5) I learned about the holocaust. I knew grandmothers who lived with their kids' families who had numbers tattooed on their arms from the concentration camps. One friends mother was a gorgeous local model who also had a number on her arm from childhood. She never tried to cover it up, even for fashion shows.

When people try to give me their hate rants I tell them that as humans we must be careful throwing hate around in casual conversation. As we have learned from the holocaust, humans are capable of horrible things and dehumanizing people is the beginning of the slippery slope. We must always guard against that.

I know you are in a difficult situation but those people are treating you like a garbage can. Maybe you could put a poster in the exam room that makes a profound statement about the consequences of hate, or something along those lines. Maybe that would shut them up before they get started?

to dismiss a patient of record, you have to have real cause. Believe it or not, it only takes one complaint with the State board to launch a significant investigation which can be calamitous. you'd be surprised as to what can happen over seemingly minor incidents.

A series of these issues can cause very big trouble professionally including suspensions and fines.

On edit: one cannot deny medical care due to the fact that the political expressions of the patient are at odds with the practitioners. If I were initially interviewing the patient and felt that he or she were a disruptive presence which would damage my practice that's one thing, it is quite another to technically 'abandon' a patient due to reasonably expressed opinions, no matter how 'vile', unless they posed a distinct and documented threat. My assumption that someone might become a problem is inadmissable and unprofessional by definition.
