(17,000 posts)and it wasn't too bad. I thought the Dem did really well. He was good on Ed last night, but I wasn't sure about a debate format. However, Walker was really weak in the segments I saw. How did you see it?

(9,124 posts)Walker lost the debate . The John Doe issue is closer to surface. Barrett successfully tied Barrett to the woes of Milwaukee and in fact was able to articulate that Walker was the reason why some seniors are in the situation they are in.
To me... the pertinent point Barrett brought to the table was that walker added another 500,000,000n to our debt to give the appearance of a balanced budget for the sake of politics. If people get that... it's the final nail in Walkers coffin.
He broached the out of state funding question and I think next week you'll see more attacks on this.
Turn out win's the race for ... in the interim I hope the people who have Walker signs out start to pull them as more info comes out in the next week of which I'm sure it will given the short memory of the average voter.
I have been cautiously optimistic... a tad more so now... but we need that other shoe to drop now.

(9,314 posts)in countering Walker's ad about his being likely to change the gun laws (actually I think the NRA put the ad out, trying to convince people to vote for Walker). He said the ad was false, and that his complaint centered around Walker engaging a sportsman from Texas of all places to take charge of hunting on public lands in Wisconsin. He, knowing how important hunting was to many people in Wisconsin, strenuously objected to a guy out of Texas taking charge and perhaps turning it into one of those processes where only the wealthy would be given hunting permits to these public lands.
I am not an NRA fan by any means, or a hunter!, but I thought strategically speaking that was a great rebuttal to the NRA ad, one that would influence voters on both sides of the aisle.
I am so hoping Walker goes down, but I too could not stomach watching the debate this evening. That guy is an anathema to me.

(17,528 posts)a hard time deciding whether to send him to heaven for all his charity or to HELL for all his greed and ruination of so many lives.
If I were God I'd have no problem with a decision. I'd send him directly to HELL for all the pain and suffering he caused due to his greed for more and more money. He wouldn't appreciate all the money he donated to charity promoting Joseph Smith instead of Jesus. I'll bet most the millions he donated to the Morman church was/ is used to promote Mormanism rather than giving a leg up to the poor. God knows in his heart he looks down on the poor and has no regard for them. I tell you...the man's going to hell someday. Maybe the devil will take his money and use it to create more vulture capitalists.

(8,421 posts)the fire breathers are already on board, it's the moderates who need convincing. I think his low-key approach works. And being mayor of Milwaukee ain't a walk in the park, either, so I think he's got some backbone.

(4,578 posts)And this whole thing in Wisconsin seems to feed on that type of energy.
Maybe I am wrong, but the energy level has seemingly dropped off immensely. I think Barrett could have done himself well stoking that energy a bit. Turn over the coals so to speak. I honestly don't believe it is in his persona though. Seems confident and comfortable.

(8,421 posts)Walker started to talk about how he raised the amount of money used in Badgercare (our Medicaid in WI) and I supplied my hubby with the facts, that Walker only did it AFTER the feds told him he had to, that the money could not be diverted. As soon as I spouted the facts, so did Barrett. Barrett talked about being the leader of the ENTIRE state, that he knows how to bring folks together, and a lot of healing has to be done here, and he is the man to do it. He talked about how he (Barrett) was not the unions' first choice (he wasn't) but he would honor those unions.
Walker tried a lot of lies on the mining thing, too. Then I spoke up (I talk or yell at the TV a lot) about how it was the Republicans who abandoned the mining bill first.... then of course Barrett said the same thing.
So for the 15-20 minutes I heard or saw, I thought it went well, and of course, think Wanker looks and sounds like a weasel. No matter what he is saying.

You've got the Medicaid/Badgercare funding (added 1.2 billion when budget was passed) mixed up with the family care cap.

(2 posts)I'll just comment about the jobs numbers.
They are reported to the IRS (on Employer's required quarterly 941 reports) and the Wisconsin Dept. of Workforce Development (Quarterly tax and wage reports).
The 941 reports require, in addition to the payroll numbers, an exact number of employees who worked during the quarter.
The WI DWD reports require the names of the employees, their wages, and a specific number of employees who worked during EACH MONTH of the quarter.
These reports were the source for Reggie Newson's (WI DWD Secretary) released figures that Walker is using. Though not 'verified' by the US BLS to date - they are ACTUAL numbers from reports required by nearly all Wisconsin Employers who meet a payroll and/or are subject to Unemployment Insurance laws.
You may not like the numbers, but they're real, and they're likely 99.99% accurate.

(24,721 posts)from the rational point of view.
Walker's shifty expression between 20:56 - 21:07 pretty much capsulizes the attitude & ineptness (as leader of the gang who couldn't shoot straight) we've come to know.
Eighty-five percent of Barrett's contributions have come from Wisconsinites; 60-70% of Walker's contributions have come from out of state.
The question regarding the John Doe investigation begins at 25:17.
Walker boasted about having "high integrity" since being an eagle scout. He served with "high integrity" in state assembly, as account executive; now as governor, he will "continue to have high integrity".
Walker claimed this investigation started because his office asked for it two years ago. "We had concerns about someone who was involved with a veterans-related program & we asked the DA to look into it. That's why we're involved & why we continue to cooperate; we haven't been the target of this." (The arrests of his key aides were just coincidental. )
Barrett pointed out that Walker is the only governor in this country who has a criminal defense fund. He has spent $100,000 on criminal defense lawyers, one on federal & one on state charges.
Walker's top aides had a network in his office where there was a secret computer system that did fund raising & campaigning. When Walker found out, did he order an investigation? No, he sent an e-mail to them stating that "we can't afford to have any more stories."
Walker's concerns were about public relations, not about criminal investigations.
Barrett asked for two things. He asked for Walker to clear the record, to show everyone the e-mails that he sent to "that criminal enterprise, if you will, that secret system in his office".
Barrett also asked, who is paying for Walker's criminal defenses? The people in the state have a right to know who is paying for his criminal defenses.

(24,721 posts)Barrett would win this election by way over half the state's vote. I'm sure of that after seeing this. Again, I'm talking about a world of integrity without billionnaires & special interests buying an election for power.
I just had to point out something I thought interesting at the end of the debate. In answer to the question, what would you do to bring unity back to the state, Walker said that you Wisconsinites should "just get past it & move on past the election"...
Btw, doesn't he seem overly smug & secure about his situation?

(13,570 posts)I also saw the Fitzgerald debate (he's the RePUKE senate leader facing recall) and these two rat bastards are obviously being coached by the same right wing corporate-paid slimeballs. They BOTH kept talking about how "We need to move on from these recalls" and "Move forward". They both LIED about the condition of the state since Walker and the Pukes came in. They BOTH refused to acknowledge the "divide and conquer" strategy that they both used. Just pretended it didn't exist when confronted with it. I will hand this much to the ReSCUMlicans. They do have MESSAGE DISCIPLINE. However, this time the Dems do too, and in both of these debates the Dems HIT HARD at THEIR themes too and took the fight to the RePUKES. You can not play nicey nice with RePUKES and you can't just talk programs and statistics. You have to talk VALUES and you have to use EMOTION and you to ATTACK THEM HARD and talk from the gut.
