Where is Cape Hatteras beach?

I saw it listed on the Doctor Beach rankings but it wasn't clear what he (she?) was talking about.

Is it the stretch of beach right at the cape? Which is damn near impossible to get to.

Is it any beach on Hatteras Island?

Is it any beach on the Cape Hatteras National Seashore? Which stretches from Silver Lake to some arbitrary line in the sand between Rodanthe and Nags Head.

Does anyone know?

1. I thought it was near the lighthouse

But I could be wrong. I don't think it is a town name (like my home town of Cocoa Beach, which is a barrier island miles off the coast, and entirely separate from the town of Cocoa, which is on the mainland). I think Cape Hatteras beach -- if it was used with a lower case b as you typed it -- would refer to any of the Cape Hatteras beaches.

It's on the west end of the island and nowhere near the lighthouse.

The question wasn't if there was a "Hatteras Village." I've surfed near where the lighthouse used to be, before they moved it. And there WAS a beach there. Maybe not anymore, but still, no one asked about Hatteras Village.

From Rodanthe down to the Ferry docks. My second guess
would be what my family calls Lighthouse beach, in Buxton.
When he's made recs for Ocracoke before, he's actually called
it that.

The further south you go, the more aqua blue the water. Up near
Rodanthe (where we always camp) the water is the same
Grey-brown as here in Delaware. I personally think any of their
beaches are just great, but I'm partial to Ocracoke. I could sit on
the sand there and sift shells for days if hubby would let me .

We go there every year for two to three weeks. Unfortunately,
we won't be going this year since family calls and we need to
go down to FL for my FILs 80th birthday. He's just been diagnosed
with Alzheimer's, so our vacation will be changing for awhile.

Since discovering the Outer Banks, we haven't set foot on a
Delaware beach. In all my life I've never had the experience
Of being on a beach during peak season in DE and being the
only people you can see on the whole beach. Even after all
of Dr Beach's recs, OBX has enough beach that you can do that,
even during July 4th week. It is more crowded now and the wait
for the ferry is longer, but you can still find those spots!

5. The Outer Banks (OBX) is where everyone in Richmond and Hampton Roads goes to beach

as far as there being a beach at the lighthouse at Hatteras...there might be but mostly it is a rocky area that a lot of surfers used to love.

The outer banks was also a shooting gallery for German U-Boats around WWII I think they sunk like 800 merchant ships. The Germans were amazed that there were not blackout requirements on land, they could surface and have a smoke while shooting at the silhouettes.

7. Proximity of the Continental Shelf is why U-boats hung out at Cape Hatteras

It was one of the only places on the East Coast with water deep enough for the U-boats to submerge beyond the range of depth charges.

That's why they sank so many ships in that area.

It's also why it's currently such a popular charter fishing destination.
