Is it safe to 'Trick or Treat' in 2015?

(14,861 posts)by tainted trick or treat candy? I seem to remember that there was a murder of a kid that the perpetrator tried to blame on tainted candy, and I also remember hearing about a kid who got into the parent's drug stash at Halloween time and overdosed. It's been forever since anyone has given out apples, so if there were any real cases of people putting razor blades in them and handing them out, it was before my time.

(1,958 posts)I don't really remember if those x-rays actually ever happened, but I do know that there never were any incidents in which candy was found with razor blades or needles in them.
When my oldest brother's boys were trick or treating I gave each of them a full size Snickers bar with a ten inch nail poked through them.

REYNOLDSBURG, Ohio - Ohio police are reminding parents to inspect the candy their trick-or-treaters collect on Halloween after a razor blade was found in a candy bar.
Reynoldsburg police began investigating Thursday after they said a food item was found to be contaminated with a "hazardous substance." According to WBNS in Columbus , a razor blade was found in a bite-sized Snickers bar.
Police said they were reviewing the circumstances and inspecting other candy given out in that area.
Parents should inspect all food items before they are consumed by a child.
