I just heard that Obama just signed the budget deal that runs through 2017.

I only just heard about the deal in the last week, did it really already pass votes in the House and Senate and get signed? That's incredibly fast movement for a Congress that generally doesn't want to do squat if so.

(I guess it did. From various sites...)

So I guess Ryan gets his 'clean slate', the military gets more money, and Republicans get one more win.

Hoo fricking ray.

And the ones on the far right complain about any deal that doesn't include all Democrats being rounded up and shoved into concentration camps.

Maybe it's not quite what I originally heard about it. I guess I will have to take links to see just what it wound up being by the time it was voted on.

gives us time to work towards something better'.

Still, I'd rather have had the 'deal' only run til just before next year's elections. Then, if Republicans wanted to shut down the government just before elections, they would guarantee themselves massive electoral losses.

The budget deal also continues a problematic trend in recent deficit reduction efforts by skewing toward more spending cuts and less revenue increases. Since 2010, legislation to reduce the deficit has made about $4 in spending cuts for every $1 in new revenue. The inattention to the revenue side of the budget means that the wealthiest Americans continue to benefit from large and wasteful tax breaks, while spending cuts to education, affordable housing, nutrition assistance, and other programs have fallen hard on struggling families.

Some troubling Medicare issues, but also I note that they point out it takes the threat of gov't shutdowns and fights over the debt limit off the table until AFTER the elections. Now who gets hurt by those fights? Republicans. So a far better deal would be to keep those off the table until the last 4 months or so BEFORE the elections, then let Republicans shut down the government right before the elections if they dared, and see how well that worked for them at the polls.
