I only just heard about the deal in the last week, did it really already pass votes in the House and Senate and get signed? That's incredibly fast movement for a Congress that generally doesn't want to do squat if so.

Still, I'd rather have had the 'deal' only run til just before next year's elections. Then, if Republicans wanted to shut down the government just before elections, they would guarantee themselves massive electoral losses.

8. Yeah, I was just reading the politico link another commenter supplied above.

Some troubling Medicare issues, but also I note that they point out it takes the threat of gov't shutdowns and fights over the debt limit off the table until AFTER the elections. Now who gets hurt by those fights? Republicans. So a far better deal would be to keep those off the table until the last 4 months or so BEFORE the elections, then let Republicans shut down the government right before the elections if they dared, and see how well that worked for them at the polls.
