(23,946 posts)the danger Obama may get the credit and praise he so richly deserves.....the enemy of liberals is not the GOP so much as the corporate media that controls the messaging....and look at gas prices and inflation...lots of outrage when high, and total silence when low.
Speaking of not giving Obama any credit, lots of that here at DU made obvious by the silence also....speak up, folks, the corporate media will be steadfast in silence.
Obama's delivered results on unemployment have far exceeded the "bold" at the time Romney promises, we all remember that and no amount of mass media amnesia can change the facts, mentioned or not.

2008 - Worst year for jobs since '45
A sobering U.S. Labor Department jobs report Friday showed the economy lost 524,000 jobs in December and 1.9 million in the year's final four months, after the credit crisis began in September.
The unemployment rate rose to 7.2% last month from 6.7% in November - its highest rate since January 1993.
The steep annual drop in jobs marked the highest yearly job-loss total since 1945, the year in which World War II ended

What is wild is the layoffs are not showing up anywhere like http://dailyjobcuts.com
But The Layoff.com has pretty good coverage. The telco I used to work for would stagger the layoffs in groups all over the country so if you did know know someone affected, you would never know it. I think there must be a number by which you have to notify someone.

(55,981 posts)seems that when things look good, the Pres gets credit. In my neighborhood things are much worse than 2008. Many people are not included in the unemployment statistic because they have given up. Foodbank usage is at an all time high and donations at an all time low. The number of homeless is high. Those I know are glad to have jobs but most are low paying with no benefits and no security. Health insurance is skyrocketing. Mine is going up 33% next year. Foodstamps are being cut along with other safety nets. I still see homes being taken by the banks and companies moving out of the country. Retirements are being lost. Our roads and bridges are crumbling.
Which of the above does Pres Obama get credit for?

(56,582 posts)That's not really how the figure works, but BLS says the discouraged worker rate has been at historic lows for a year now.
Those I know are glad to have jobs but most are low paying with no benefits and no security
Then that's unusual, because wages have edged up over the past year.
Health insurance is skyrocketing.
Health insurance premiums have had the smallest increase in decades.

(11,833 posts)Of course we have a lot more to do. We need to increase the minimum wage, and many more jobs that pay more than the minimum wage.
But the accomplishments of President Obama's administration are really remarkable considering we were in the beginning of the biggest financial crisis since the Great Depression when he became president.
Best progressive president of my lifetime. Let's continue these accomplishments.

(3,732 posts)I believe his administration goes to great length to distort and hide unemployment numbers. This does a great disservice to people who need help obtaining a livelihood, especially since there is no welfare safety net. The problem officially does not exist, so those who suffer are left in limbo.
