Gov. Scott Walkers campaign has spent more than $20 million since he took office in 2011. Heres a breakdown of where the money went.
TV advertising: $7,762,580.09
Direct mailing: $6,181,840.49
Solicitation for donations: $1,699,113.01
General consulting fees: $1,219,992.15
Radio advertising: $660,324.40
Administrative expenses: $527,616.42
Legal compliance/administrative fees: $342,909.44
Miscellaneous printing (bumper stickers, buttons, T-shirts): $329,814.32
Mailing lists: $325,192.68
The Gannett Wisconsin Media review found the campaign paid the most to these consultants:
Doner Fundraising, Austin, Texas: $343,939
Doner Fundraising is a full-service fundraising and event services company that partners with issue-based nonprofits, coalitions, corporations, and professional associations and candidates, according to a description posted on the Website of the State Policy Network, an umbrella group of think tanks. A call to the firms founder, Kate Doner, was not returned.
Mary Stitt, Port Washington: $155,788
Stitt, according to a Walker 2009 campaign press release, was the lead fundraiser for his campaign, as well as the lead fundraiser for eight statewide Republican campaigns for governor and U.S. Senate, and every Republican presidential campaign since 1996.

Compared with most of the major forms of sports and entertainment, there is not a lot of money in politics.
It's too bad, really, because it indicates that people aren't engaged and don't actually care much about politics.

(19,429 posts)Sports and entertainment also involves attachment of the populace to personalities (e.g. LeBron James or Lady Gaga) and to popular causes (e.g. winning the World Series).

(16,232 posts)between Milwaukee & Madison - dozens! Made me sick driving back from there. And one huge billboard dissing Democrats and Unions in general.
Plus all the bumperstickers in the parking lot at the airport! My 13 yo looked at me sideways and said, "I've got a sharpie. . . " Though tempted, I explained that defacing or destroying property was wrong - even it was for the "right reasons", and that we didn't want to stoop to their level.
