I don't know what part of the country you live in, but where I live that would be alarming. I would walk out and never come back until it was strictly forbidden and enforced by law.

Just remember, you have as much chance of convincing me as I do convincing you.

(63,221 posts)That is not at all what my daily life looks life. And if it did I think I would shoot myself.
GGJohn
(9,951 posts)WTF are you talking about?
I said that I oppose open carry except for in a very few limited circumstances.
My daily life doesn't look anything like that either, my daily life deals with farm animals and farm chores.

(54,770 posts)to your body to walk down the street. I really don't care where it was taken. Fact is, folks carry guns like that in this country, and gunners condone it.

(10,164 posts)It's a Target store...and Target has no stores outside the US.
GGJohn
(9,951 posts)Because there are Target stores in Canada, Australia, etc.
https://corporate.target.com/Careers/global-locations
Lizzie Poppet
(10,164 posts)I'd already been to that link, and there's nothing there about stores anywhere but the US (I just double-checked by searching the page for both "Canada" and "Australia," and got 0 hits on either word). They have offices in India- IT and other corporate services Bangalore, I believe - but no stores listed.
There were Target stores in Canada, but according to an article I just read, they were all closed this year.

(1,819 posts)I live in Washington state and its not that uncommon to see upen carry in my area.
Local law enforcement does not seem to have a problem with it and concealed carry permits are freely given.
No angst or drama about it here.
GGJohn
(9,951 posts)where we don't even have to have a CHL to carry openly or concealed.
We are very liberal with open carry, but have to pay $52 for a permit to cover a background check for the CCW however.
Very little drama surrounding guns here in rural WA.
Seattle may be a tad different however!!
GGJohn
(9,951 posts)that have a reciprocity agreement with AZ, which is the route I went.

(1,819 posts)I wish they would pass universal reciprocity, dealing with the paperwork sucks.

(63,221 posts)where this is NEVER seen. It is horrifying to us. I can't imagine what it is like to live in world like this.
It is so foreign to me. If I lived like this, I would effing SWIM to Europe

(1,819 posts)And that is not an exaggeration. What crime we do have usually comes from people passing through.

(63,221 posts)Where do you live? Do you know how nice it is to live in a place where this is not necessary? Where we don't live in fear of being blown away on a moments notice? What on earth is wrong with you people?

(12,194 posts)It may not be seen, but I guarantee that if you live in the U.S., you live in a state where its legal to carry one way or the other.
GGJohn
(9,951 posts)it's not something we get excited about either.

(654 posts)"Open Carrying of Handguns: Only five states, California, Florida, Illinois New York, and South Carolina, as well as the District of Columbia, prohibit the open carrying of handguns in public places. Thirty-one states allow the open carrying of a handgun without any license or permit, although in some cases the gun must be unloaded. Fifteen states require some form of license or permit in order to openly carry a handgun."
"Open Carrying of Long Guns: Six states, California, Florida, Illinois, Massachusetts, Minnesota and New Jersey, as well as the District of Columbia, generally ban the open carrying of long guns (rifles and shotguns). In the 44 remaining states, openly carrying a long gun is legal, although in three of these states, Iowa, Tennessee and Utah, the long gun must be unloaded. In addition, Virginia and Pennsylvania limit the ability to openly carry long guns in certain cities. In a majority of states, it is legal for an individual to openly carry a loaded firearm in public without a permit."

(1,819 posts)Manager of a Baskin Robbins (I think) called the cops on a person having a cone who was open carrying.
Cops showed and explained to the manager it is legal, no crime was committed.
Made the local paper. Will try to find a link.
GGJohn
(9,951 posts)myself, I don't agree with open carry, but I don't get all weird over it also, especially if I see it being carried like these 2 women are carrying theirs.
Notice neither rifle has a mag in it, they're perfectly safe.

(20,582 posts)(on edit - not your post .......... that woman exposing everyone around her to danger just to go to a damn store. Crazy.)
GGJohn
(9,951 posts)If you had looked, you would notice that the mag wells are empty?
Did you also happen to notice that those rifles are slung across their backs in a non threatening manner?
polly7
(20,582 posts)I've been on calls to quite a few others who've purposefully or accidentally shot themselves or others.
I know all I need to.
GGJohn
(9,951 posts)But the fact is that those rifles are in a safe, non threatening mode, and do we even know if this picture was taken in the US?
I do admit ......... I hate guns. Hate them. Growing up on a farm, I know that they're necessary at times for protection against predators, but seriously - self protection in a store with possibly hundreds of other people who could be shot only because they were there? I'm trying to think of the number of pts. we've transported who were involved in accidental shootings who just couldn't imagine how it happened. I had a little friend in elementary school who was shot by his brother, my cousin was killed hunting when going through a barbed-wire fence. Guns are never 'safe and non threatening', there is always the possibility of someone being shot.
I just don't see a reason for one except to protect livestock, etc. or ...... maybe, self-protection at home if someone really feels there is a danger to their lives in the area they live, and those guns should be very, very safely stored.
Strapping on a deadly weapon like in this picture to head down to the store, to me - no matter where it is, is absolutely freaking nuts.
GGJohn
(9,951 posts)but if I saw those women with their rifles in that mode, I certainly wouldn't freak out and leave, I might say something to the manager about how this might make other customers uncomfortable and they might lose business and it might be a good idea to politely ask them to cease and desist.
See, we can agree on some things.

(10,164 posts)...this particular scenario wouldn't bother me. Carrying openly, weapons slung, magazine well empty? It's not impossible they might be up to no good...but it seems damned unlikely.
Still a dumb idea, though...

(10,362 posts)I'd say "look at that, how strange" and go about my shopping.
I'm far more worried about concealed weapons. Criminals facing weapons violations concern me much more than open carry people.

(3,580 posts)I'd stay away from them, I have no idea what they might do.
I was at a 4h show once helping the neighbor with her kids at the horse show and some loon was there with a fucking rifle for gods sake. So I went up to him and said omg, did a horse break a leg and youre here to shoot it? Why else would a grown ass man be at a kids horse show parade around with a rifle, it doesn't make a lika bita sense. I mean what is the point? Most people out here have rifles but who parades around with them at a horse show. I feel the same way about people wearing their pajamas to Walmart. Sure you are free to do that but ya look deranged.

(12,194 posts)What a joke.
I don't believe I've ever seen a terminator movie where ANYONE used a civilian legal semi auto rifle of any brand/shape/form.
Nice hyperbole though.
